January 24, 2016

Following the recent armed robbery at the Van Buren Gas Station and the shooting incidents on North Shore, Pembroke and Court Street, the PLP said the “amount of violence committed over the past two months is unacceptable, and we stand together with every Bermudian and all residents in absolute condemnation of these acts.”

Shadow Minister of Home Affairs Walter Roban, and North Shore shooting area MP, PLP Deputy Leader, David Burt said, “The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party is shocked and angered by the reports of crimes involving firearms that have taken place within the last few days.

“The armed robbery that occurred at the Van Buren Marine Station in Flatts is disappointing, and we are relieved to hear that none of the staff or clients were harmed.

“Additionally, the shootings which occurred on the North Shore, Pembroke where multiple shots where fired resulting in serious injuries to the victim, and Court Street, which fortunately saw no injures, are frightening and concerning.

    • Onion juice says:

Well at least you’re acknowledging it, that’s good. Get it right, it’s $1000,00 a day and a $80,000 bogus bonus.

      • Onion juice says:

And just for the record, if you can name ONE place in this world that is crime free(even the East European Countries) lets get their blue print.

The Vatican, Cyprus, Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Singapore….

    • thief says:

So far that ‘tourism guy’ has been part of stemming a generally racist tendency to accuse IB, America’s Cup and other new customers of their complicity in our past that cannot be changed.

Our comments in this blog are part of our ongoing cultural history and part of Bermuda’s tourism marketing for the future.

Let’s stop all this talk and see some action. All I see is that you talk talk and talk but what are you doing about it? Action mate action speaks louder then words.

  4. Serious though says:

Bermudians want a solution not a political grand stand on issues. If PLP is mad as hell, and this started at your watch …them what serious solutions are you offering, enough of all policies grand standing, 13 yrs and counting

  5. marlin says:

Meanwhile how many million dollars disappeared when you were in power? You can’t condemn blue collar crime if you protect white collar criminals.

  6. Jus' Askin' says:

    Talk, Talk, Talk :-(
    No Solutions
No Plans to Fix the Problems
To me, PLP are really not putting in an effort to win the next election

“we stand together with every Bermudian and all residents in absolute condemnation of these acts”

Obviously not every Bermudian condemns the acts, or they wouldn’t be happening!

  9. wahoo says:

So if connected to a lie detector would a politician be able to deny any knowledge of criminal activity?

I bet the machine would blow up when they walk in the door!

  10. ImJustSayin says:

I am tired of reading our hearing these politicians expressing shock about gun violence it’s the same crap they spew out every time, but do nothing. It’s as if you see rain clouds and you go out and get caught in the rain and then you are shocked and complain about. But you haven’t done anything to prevent yourself from getting wet. They need to make all those associated with the perps accountable then maybe just maybe it may stop. That is just one suggestion.
