BFA: “Let’s Work Towards Peace And Love”

February 7, 2016

Following the shooting last night at BAA field, the Bermuda Football Association [BFA] said they deplore the incident and encouraged anyone with information to contact the authorities.

After the incident last night, the police said, “It appears that a football game between Ireland Rangers and BAA was in its final stages when a male discharged a firearm from the southern side [Serpentine Road] of the field right beside the perimeter wall. All players and match officials retreated to safety and the scene was processed by the relevant Police Officers.”

“Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen male or males in the area of Serpentine Road and BAA acting suspiciously to call Police on 2950011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.”

Audio statement from Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines last night at the scene:

A BFA spokesperson said, “The BFA deplores the incident last evening and encourages anyone with information to contact the authorities. We will work with our affiliates and the BPS in every way on this matter.

“The BFA organizes hundreds of matches every year for thousands of players and fans at over a dozen locations, in a wonderful sporting environment without incident.

“We urge parents, families and community leaders to get very involved in the lives of our young people so they can make the best decisions and to steer them away from anti-social conduct.

“We trust that people will continue to attend games as this incident does not seem to be related to football.

“This kind of incident doesn’t belong at a sporting event or in the Bermuda community where innocent people could be harmed or affected. Let’s work towards peace and love.”

  1. There is 100% agreement from here. Yup! This ridiculous violence must end.It is crazy for young men to shoot and kill each other. Our small island does need peace and tranquility to mend.
    Their behaviours are pathetic!!
Do stop the violence and the nonsense!!

“We trust that people will continue to attend games as this incident does not seem to be related to football.”

Maybe not related to football, but it IS related to the little thugs that play for your clubs and are allowed to hang out at the clubhouse with pretty open drug use. Clean up your act BFA.

Maybe first we need to get rid of negative people who comment on other as a distraction, you know I am talking about you sitting there every day and posting things about PLP and OBA, people like you create problems in society.

  3. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

So how many times do we have to ask for peace n love…IT’S NOT GONNA HAPPEN! …what needs to happen is people need to wake up out of this fairytale life that y’all are hanging on to and face the harsh reality that is NOT going to get better but worse…its the times we are living in…its been prophesied but yet you have become a society of non believers…believeing only in yourself hence the turmoil we have and continue to experience…We can clean this island up but YOU won’t like the procedure.

  4. jt says:

Denying a connection to football does not help the BFA with the problem they face.

    • trisha says:

Do you know anything about this incident old men? Tell us,we want to know the details

      • jt says:

        Young lady,
A significant number of these incidents occur at or in the vicinity of football matches and/or venues. Fact.
Like it or not this means the BFA, its players, its fans and its product are negatively affected. Therefore, there’s a connection that they are foolish to deny or minimalize.

  5. Oh,I see now says:

I’ve said the same thing in the past. The bible has laid it out for us to play it out all of this is a foregone conclusion.Bermuda is not ready to get its hands dirty dealing with these thugs without getting the human rights community involved……..If you know what I mean.

  6. Takbir Karriem Sharrieff says:

Sorry to say it guys,There will be no ,,,,,Peace and love in this Island,,,,,,,,until there is….. Justice..not… Just-us..We love Money….as it is displayed by the present O.B.A / Government.Dont say the two things are not directly related.Get your heads up off the sand open up your eyes.Peace.

    • Jus' Wonderin' says:

Just as much correlation to your book promoting violence….what do you have to say about that? Neither the OBA nor the PLP can do anything to stop this…and if you think the PLP can than you need to open up your eyes brother!

  7. aceboy says:

Prayer vigils! That is the answer.

  8. 3rdeye says:

Prayer yes however it should be more in a verb sense, an action. Tell that brother on the street that you love him, encourage that single mother, feed the needy at your gate, this is a good prayer in motion and sweet unto life.
