Marc Bean: ‘OBA’s Policies Have Been Rejected’
“The OBA’s candidate and the OBA’s policies have been rejected,” Opposition Leader Marc Bean following Diallo Rabain’s victory at the Constituency 13 Devonshire North Central by-election last night.
Mr Bean said, “For the second time in two years Bermudians have been given the opportunity to let their voices be heard at the polls. And for the second time the OBA’s candidate and the OBA’s policies have been rejected.
“With a 11 percentage point swing towards the PLP, it is clear that many Bermudians perceive the OBA as a government that has broken too many promises, been caught in too many deceptions and failed to produce their much promised 2000 jobs.
Mr Bean stands by Mr Rabain as he speaks with the media last night:
“After three years the OBA have a record. A record of doubling the debt that they promised to reduce. A record of losing nearly 2000 jobs instead of creating them. A record setting 48 year low in air arrivals
“Yet the results in constituencies 33 and 13 were not just a rejection of the OBA’s record of failure, broken promises, deceit and anti-Bermudian policies. They were also a recognition that the PLP has grown and evolved since 2012.
“Bermudians are recognizing that:
- The PLP have learned from our mistakes of 14 years of government and become more humble since being rejected in 2012
- The PLP have a plan that is real, attainable and focused on improving the conditions of all and not just the few and not just friends and family
- The PLP are putting together a team with the ability, work ethic, integrity and will to make our plan a reality
Mr Bean continued on to say that this victory for the PLP ”is a clear indication that the people of constituency 13 have not been swayed, and believe in the principles of good governance, social justice, and a Bermuda that works for Bermudians.
“We thank you for your support and we look forward to continuing the process of earning your trust, sharing our ideas and laying in place the foundation of a Bermuda that truly works for Bermudians.”
Shouldnt’ “Quickie Licky” be focusing more on Tuesday’s delegate meeting?
He should and he probably will not be leader for long.
A percentage of PLP loyalists stayed home in the last general election causing the 17-19 loss. After they have experienced the OBA rule and decided that it is not making their lot any better, it appears they will not repeat the “teach PLP a lesson” again and so OBA is definitely in deep deep trouble.
The question is not about Marc Bean and his leadership. The people of Devonshire has made that clear. Mr. Rabain is an excellent candidate, and he was made Senate leader by Marc Bean and the candidate by Marc Bean. Rabain reflects the direction of Marc Bean, and the people have shown their confidence in the direction of the PLP. Numbers do not lie. Instead of attacking Marc Bean and minimizing the excellent work of MP Rabain, might it be better to ask why this is the case? After all, the political facts as they stand, show that Marc Bean has defeated Michael Dunkley in two distinct by-elections, inspite of a media-led campaign, in both instances, to influence the outcome of the votes by attacking Bean and his leadership, even with the direct aide of so-called rebel PLP MPs . This strategy has failed, Bean has been endorsed by the voters again, and Rabain will be a very valuable asset in parliament. The OBA have the real issues of leadership, not the PLP. Ignore this reality at your peril OBA.
I think one should read this as “Rabain wins despite Bean’s leadership because Rabain is a good candidate and well liked”. One should not read this as an endorsement of Bean.
I am certain that if Rabain had lost, you would have been the first to say that Marc Bean is the reason. Honestly, your motive of envy is showing. Again, all I read are a certain media attacks by these so-called rebels towards Marc Bean. I has not worked. even after victory, the certain media is still reliant on these same so called rebel MPs to spread misinformation?

I blame the new doctor, who took over my care after convincing me he knew better than my previous doctor, and promises he would not only shrink my tumor, but it wouldn’t cost me and more or require any drastic actions

Not sure where you were at the last election, but nowhere did the OBA promise that they would be able to stop the debt right away, in fact Minister Richards was up front during the 2012 election in say that it would take time and that actions would need to be taken, though he did promise to avoid drastic ones if he could… promised and so far delivered

What people such as yourself fail to understand is that promises made are done so given the information at the time. Could be the previous doctor didn’t tell the patient, or the new doctor, how extensive the tumour was, leaving the new doctor to break the bad news about how sick the patient really is, and how difficult and expensive the necessary treatment is going to be.
Who then do you blame?
The first doc who was either incompetent or deceptive?
Or the new doc who tells you the truth, regardless of how unpalatable it is, and is working his behind off to try to save your life?
Instead of obaers focusing on the leadership of the plp, they should focus in house on Michael Dunkley who lost two consecutive bye election.
Yawn. #33 & #13 were PLP seats. Almost unheard-of for an incumbent government to win in a bye-election, let alone Opposition seats.

What Marc Bean is missing is that it is PLP members that are rejecting the OBA policies, after drinking in the PLP continuous fountain of misinformation and in some cases lies. The reason I reject the PLP currently isn’t because I am a OBA voter, (I don’t subscribe to party memberships, party loyalty is a corruption of the tenants and principles of democracy) it is because the PLP haven’t changed and haven’t been humbled by their defeat, in fact they are promising to take us right back on the course they had us on which is to economically enslave us to foreign creditors like the IMF. I units and that the OBA business friendly approach is in fact what will eventually help bring jobs back for Bermudians, while the PLP’s ‘Bermudas first’ approach is in fact what has caused the thousands of jobs to leave our country. The OBA never promised they could fix this country overnight, but they did promise to try, and so far they have succeeded. And they are succeeding because foriegn jobs are slowly trickling back, and these will eventually lead to local jobs. The problem is, we as locals are to heavily invested in the service side of this equation, though no one fault but our own. Too many are in the trades services that support and are support by the foreign jobs, so until they return in sufficient number to adequately supplement more money back into our stalled trades industries, those who were employed in that area will still have to wait. Brutal reality, but one that even the PLP can’t help, in fact, through the desolation of our education under their care, they in fact lead to more people forced to employ in the trades rather than the business industries. For the couple thousand Bermudians left unemployed in the wake of the PLP’s ‘Bermudians first’ policies, there were 3 to 4 fold that in foreign jobs gone, it falls around 1:3/1:4 ratio of local to foreign jobs lost, which means it takes around 3-4 foreigners to employ a Bermudian, and the PLP mythological $200m fishing industry or next to no employed Bermudians required to support the virtual presence that would be online gaming. All the while they would happily return to spending the money we don’t have to rebuild the illusion that they would be helping Bermudians.

it is funny how a huge segment of the viewing public spend their lives spreading vitriol day in and day out and have no intention of improving the ENTIRE Bermuda but are intent in polarizing the community based on a inherent capacity to live in the past based on the faults of our predecessors and in some cases remaining in the ‘victim position’ whilst trying to be the victor in a battle that is self-created (or learned behaviour for some).

Sadly there are those who think that THEY have a better plan than the other guy but when given the chance,prove that it isn’t necessarily the idea that needs be better but the effort of the collective to make the idea a reality
LTR are already here and already working, so the only increase in population and employment they bring to Bermuda is all statistically. The oba later on will say they created 200 or so job and since ltr earn 20% more statistically than the average Bermudian. Once they move over to Bermudian column wages and number of Bermudian jobs on paper would have grown, ..
My problem in the next election is trying to figure out which one is the lesser of the two evils.
For me it is still simpler, the party that has managed to stabilize our economy, wrangle control of the government financials (even if they have brought them to where they need to be) and done more for social justice and equality on this island, or the party that has vowed to take us back to where we were at the height of their mess, with no actual plan on how to keep it from getting into another bigger mess.
In other words, white people don’t have the problem like Black people on who they are gonna vote for, its a no brainer.
