Photos: Budgies Crowned Hockey Champions

The Budgies held off a strong challenge from the Swallows at the National Sports Center on their way to be crowned the 2015/16 Bermuda Field Hockey Ladies League Champions.

The Budgies went into this crucial game against Swallows with a must win to decide the 2015/16 League Title with the Ravens watching closely.

The game started off with pressure from both sides with both teams having strong defensive lines, the Budgies with Melanie Fullerton, LaKae Tavares and Jennifer Beech and the Swallows with Liz Stewart, Kelly Nusum and Natasha Hallinan.

Neither team could convert in the first half, however the Budgies came out determined and with good plays from Tse Minors and Francesca Cacace down the left side finally broke the strong Swallows defensive line of Nusum and Hallinan, Taylor Mullan converted a Field Goal in the 51st minute rebound off of the pads off the Swallows keeper Donna Nicholson.

In the 65th minute Minors and Keishae Robinson played up the left side line and crossed the ball into the D with Milan Wall-Burgess doubling the Budgies lead with a Field Goal. Mullan closed off the scoring with two minutes to go putting away a Field Goal from a cross from Robinson earning the Budgies the 3 – 0 win.
