PLP Highlights Athletic Achievements Overseas

March 24, 2016

Shadow Minister of Community, Culture, Sports and Health, MP Michael Weeks tonight [March 24] highlighted the achievements of athletes representing Bermuda overseas while wishing “all of our international athletes well in their fields of competition”.

MP Weeks said, “As our athletes continue to represent Bermuda on the world stage, we would like to take an opportunity to highlight their achievements. These athletes are examples of what can be achieved with hard work and dedication. We hope that in addition to personal achievement and individual success, that these athletes will be role models and inspiration for our youth and budding athletes.

“Michelle Pearson has made it into the Semi Finals of the Americas Olympic Qualifiers, and we want to congratulate her and wish her the best as she continues to compete.

“We also want to show support for Yushae DeSilva Andrade and Steve Wilson who are representing Bermuda in China at the BISFed 2016 World Individual Championships.

“Our swimmers have also had a good start at the Carifta Swimming Championships, while our sailors continue to represent us well in the IODA South American Championships.

“Additionally, we would like to wish the best of luck to our track and field athletes and coaches as they left for the Carifta games in Grenada yesterday.

“We would also like to welcome home Olympian Roy Allan Burch and his teammates as they train in Bermuda, and show our support for the Bermuda football team as they play French Guyana at the National Sports Center on Saturday evening.

“We firmly believe that success in the sports arena can translate into other fields. The Progressive Labour Party firmly supports sports development and therefore we wish all of our international athletes well in their fields of competition.”

    What a waste of a statement…

Bermuda is a funny place. We are conditioned to report WHO is congratulating an event or person over and above the recipients of the congratulations.

    “Overseas Carifta Athletics Acknowledged”

    vs
    “PLP Highlights Athletic Achievements Overseas”

Is it that big of a deal that the PLP said it?
