Bermuda To Mark Females In ICT Day On April 28
Bermuda is invited to be part of the global movement and celebrate International Girls in ICT Day on April 28th, as the Department of E-Commerce will celebrate the day for Information and Communications Technologies [ICT] by organising three events, including two student competitions.
Dr. Marisa Stones, Director of the Department of E-Commerce said: “The community is invited to participate in our efforts to encourage, foster, and mentor our young women to consider ICT as a career path, to grow in the ICT industry, and to eventually take on leadership positions.”
Dr. Stones added, “Let us celebrate the inspiring ICT women who are in our midst. The public can nominate any woman who stands out in the Island’s ICT sector by emailing e-commerce@gov.bm the name of a nominee, including the name of her organization/employer, and her contact details. Also, write a brief paragraph clarifying the contribution that your nominee is making in the ICT world – whether locally or globally.”
Meanwhile, the Department of E-Commerce has provided all primary schools with posters depicting internationally-recognised pioneers in the ICT industry. The schools have been asked to encourage their students to colour the poster and return the finished product by Friday April 22nd at 3pm.
Students in the island’s secondary schools are encouraged to produce a 30-second video clip in which they use ICT in a creative and innovative way and which centres on girls and ICT in Bermuda.
The winners of all three competitions will be announced on April 28th, 2016 at the International Girls in ICT Day Celebration.
International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated globally on the 4th Thursday of April every year. The initiative is backed by the International Telecommunications Union [ITU] and aims to empower and encourage girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICT.
