Bermuda Heroes Weekend To Launch App

Revellers are expected to descend for the second annual Bermuda Heroes Weekend which is set to take place from June 17 to 20, and will see more bands than last year and international soca artists performing at various events over the four-day period.

In order to make the event seamless for attendees, organisers have developed the BHW App. The app will be available at the end of the month for both Apple and Android users and provide users with instant updates via notifications.

Also new this year is Kiddie Carnival, to be held on June 4, 2016 at Victoria Park. Kiddie Carnival is open to children aged five and 11-years-old and their families. The event will feature a short parade to Victoria Park with child-friendly costumes.

Inside the park will feature entertainment for families including fun castles, games and face painting. Food and beverages will be available and an exciting surprise will finish the day.

Jason Sukdeo, President, BHW, says: “Kiddie Carnival is something very new to Bermuda and we look forward to offering a fun, child appropriate event for local children and their families to enjoy. This event is completely separate from BHW and will be an event for the whole family to enjoy.”

BHW said, “In 2015, BHW attracted over 200 visitors to Bermuda. This year, the number could double to 400. The BHW committee continues to work with overseas partners to draw visitors to Bermuda. Promotional efforts in Toronto, New York and Trinidad have been very well received and travel packages for BHW have been created to garner more interest.

“The schedule of events for this year’s carnival will be the same format of last year starting with Five Star Friday at the National Sports Centre on June 17 at 7pm. The event will open the carnival weekend and is open to the whole community with designated seating for families and those under 18.

“BHW Glow J’Ouvert will be held on Saturday, June 18 early in the morning at the Michael Preece Softball Stadium at Bernard’s Park in Hamilton followed by the Parade of Bands at 2pm beginning in St. David’s with the route ending at Clearwater Beach. Family-friendly entertainment including DJs and dance groups will be featured on a special stage at the end of the parade.

“Pan in the Park is scheduled for Sunday, June 19 at 3pm featuring live steel pan artists performing a variety of music with no charge to the community. In addition, Sunday is also promoters’ day and various local promoters have events scheduled. More information can be found on the BHW website.

“Rounding out the weekend is the Raft Up to be held on National Heroes Day. This event is unique to Bermuda and will be held in the Great Sound, offering visitors a truly Bermudian experience to offset the carnival weekend.”
