Bermuda Heroes Weekend To Launch App

April 5, 2016

Revellers are expected to descend for the second annual Bermuda Heroes Weekend which is set to take place from June 17 to 20, and will see more bands than last year and international soca artists performing at various events over the four-day period.

In order to make the event seamless for attendees, organisers have developed the BHW App. The app will be available at the end of the month for both Apple and Android users and provide users with instant updates via notifications.

Also new this year is Kiddie Carnival, to be held on June 4, 2016 at Victoria Park. Kiddie Carnival is open to children aged five and 11-years-old and their families. The event will feature a short parade to Victoria Park with child-friendly costumes.

Inside the park will feature entertainment for families including fun castles, games and face painting. Food and beverages will be available and an exciting surprise will finish the day.

Jason Sukdeo, President, BHW, says: “Kiddie Carnival is something very new to Bermuda and we look forward to offering a fun, child appropriate event for local children and their families to enjoy. This event is completely separate from BHW and will be an event for the whole family to enjoy.”

BHW said, “In 2015, BHW attracted over 200 visitors to Bermuda. This year, the number could double to 400. The BHW committee continues to work with overseas partners to draw visitors to Bermuda. Promotional efforts in Toronto, New York and Trinidad have been very well received and travel packages for BHW have been created to garner more interest.

“The schedule of events for this year’s carnival will be the same format of last year starting with Five Star Friday at the National Sports Centre on June 17 at 7pm. The event will open the carnival weekend and is open to the whole community with designated seating for families and those under 18.

“BHW Glow J’Ouvert will be held on Saturday, June 18 early in the morning at the Michael Preece Softball Stadium at Bernard’s Park in Hamilton followed by the Parade of Bands at 2pm beginning in St. David’s with the route ending at Clearwater Beach. Family-friendly entertainment including DJs and dance groups will be featured on a special stage at the end of the parade.

“Pan in the Park is scheduled for Sunday, June 19 at 3pm featuring live steel pan artists performing a variety of music with no charge to the community. In addition, Sunday is also promoters’ day and various local promoters have events scheduled. More information can be found on the BHW website.

“Rounding out the weekend is the Raft Up to be held on National Heroes Day. This event is unique to Bermuda and will be held in the Great Sound, offering visitors a truly Bermudian experience to offset the carnival weekend.”

Mr Sukdeo says: “BHW Ltd. is very excited to announce the second annual Signature Tourism event known globally as Bermuda Heroes Weekend, additionally, the new app and Kiddie Carnival.

“We are making every effort to deliver a bigger and better 2016 experience for all to enjoy. The response received after our inaugural event in 2015 both locally and overseas have highlighted the overall success and the enjoyment experienced by all.”

BHW added that their “key partners include the Government of Bermuda – specifically Premier Michael Dunkley, former Minister Shawn Crockwell, Minister Craig Cannonier and their respective ministries who have provided their full support for the weekend of events.

“Other partners include Bermuda Tourism Authority, Bermuda Land Development Company, City of Hamilton, CellOne, Gibbons Group of Companies, JetBlue, Barritt’s and The Fairmont Hamilton Princess.”

    • I heart 441 says:

You didn’t say that loud enough for the anti-feters to hear you!! lol

    • Truth says:

Don’t fool yourself, second to cup match by a long way.

Question is – why isn’t there a cup match app?

    • Onion Juice says:

      Um, Carnival without G-Strings !!!!!!!!!!!!
      Oh well this is Bermuda.

I knew sooner or later U.B.P would be using Jason as a poster boy Pide Piper to get votes.
Dont get fooled people, enjoy and party but dont get hoodwinked like last time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • I heart 441 says:

Politics and soca don’t mix, carry on….

      • wahoo says:

Exactly, if you want to wear a G-string go to San Francisco.

    • Um.... says:

Have we forgot Cup Match? BHW is great but it doesn’t come close to what Cup Match represents.

  2. Location, Location, Location says:

Opening Night – National Stadium. Ok, easily accessible.
    J’Ouvert – Bernard’s Park. Ok, easily accessible.
Pan in the Park – Ok, good family event, easily accessible.

Parade of Bands – CLEAR WATER?!?! Middle of Nowhere?!? Guaranteed one accident from drunk drivers.

BHW Raft up – Morgan’s Point?! I pray it’s in the bay where the beach is; accessibility by land???

Shouldn’t the parade of bands be somewhere where there actually is life. North Hamilton would be great for this; brings much needed business to local shops. And spectators have to pay $10? WHAT?! Get outta here.
Parade down to admiralty house so that people can swim and jump off rocks.

    Money grubbers.
