East End School’s Alumni Celebration Kicks Off
On Friday, April 8th, East End Primary School kicked off its alumni celebrations with visits from two former students, Senator Renee Ming and Islandstats owner Earl Basden.
Both of them shared fond memories of their time at East End, and stressed the importance of getting a good education in order to reach personal goals.
Senator Ming began with an infusion of humor when she shared that she is sixteen years of age; this left some of the students looking confused but visibly engaged in what she had to say to them.
Senator Ming gave each student a card with a character trait on it and her talk culminated with “I can because I am….” Students were called on to complete the statement according to their individual card.

Mr Basden encouraged the students to always do their best. He amicably and effectively played into the competitive spirit of the school which led to friendly banter amongst the students and staff.
Mr Basden spoke passionately of the benefits that working with sports have provided him, such as travelling around the world and experiencing different cultures. All in attendance were amazed to learn that East End Primary once had an enviable gymnastics team ‘back in the day’.
East End will be observing Alumni Homecoming Weekend from April 29 – May 1. Related activities include an Honorary Assembly [April 29], Family Fun Day [April 30], culminating with a Church Worship Service officiated by Rev Lorne Bean and Sunday Brunch after the service. A
