“Wells profited from a defensive howler in the 35th minute from Shane Duffy, whose header left the 25-year-old striker with a simple volley to beat Jason Steele.

“He then pressured Matt Kilgallon in the 54th minute which led to the defender putting the ball through his own net as Huddersfield registered a win at Ewood Park for the first time since 1986.

“And after watching Town notch a second victory in three games on the road to end a three-game winless run, Wagner said that Wells deserved the goal after a performance that sums up the way Huddersfield play.

“Of course, the first goal was a mistake but Wells showed a good nose that he smelled something could happen and he was there, so all in all I think it was a good performance,” said Wagner after Saturday’s Championship clash.

Video highlights of the Huddersfield game, including Nahki Wells’ goal:

“I’m very proud, happy and satisfied with what we showed today and the result. I think we deserved it,” added Wagner.

“As important that he scores again today, is that, like in the past, he’s our first defender. Nahki helps the team massively with his work in the defence and the team try to help Nahki get chances and score. He did well today but not only because of his goal, but because of his defensive performance.
