Video: Smith Featured In Inspiration Campaign
Bermudian Rodney A. Smith Jr’s mission to offer free lawn mowing services to elderly people and single mothers in Alabama, has caught the notice of lawn mower company Briggs and Stratton, who interviewed Mr. Smith, and produced a very nice video covering his good works.
In the video, Mr. Smith credits Bermuda as his inspiration, saying, “In Bermuda, everybody is friendly; they give back when they can, and that’s what drives me to help people.”
Mr. Smith’s project, which started in September 2015 with a goal of 40 lawns – now raised to 100 – is dubbed ‘Raising Men Lawn Care Service,’ a charitable effort with island roots that Mr. Smith hopes will “expand around the world.”
The company said, “College student Rodney Smith Jr. challenged himself to cut 40 lawns for single moms and the elderly. When he mowed 40, he raised the goal to 100. His personal challenge became a lawn service – and a calling.
“Raising Men Lawn Care Service is a group of boys and young men who volunteer to cut lawns. But they are doing more than mowing lawns. They are learning valuable lessons along the way. We’re inspired by Rodney, who exemplifies all that You.Powered. stands for.”
His good deeds also caught the attention of WHNT news in December 2015, who decided to “pay it forward” by donating $319 toward his cause, which Smith calls the “Bermudian way of giving back.”
