Court: 25-Year-Old Fined After ‘Popping Wheelie’

May 17, 2016

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [May 17], a 25-year-old man was fined after admitting driving without due care and attention, with the Court hearing he ‘popped a wheelie’ and caused another vehicle to have to swerve to avoid him.

Sergio Robinson pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention in Pembroke on 24th March 2016.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Mr Robinson $800 for the offence, which resulted in Mr Robinson loudly exclaiming: “All that?”

The Magistrate replied: “Want more?”

The Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that Police had seen him riding his cycle with his helmet unfastened. They stopped him and asked him to fasten his helmet.

He then rode off. Police observed him ‘pop-a-wheelie’ and cause an oncoming car to swerve to avoid him, so they stopped him again and ticketed him for driving without due care and attention.
