Photos: 2016 Santo Cristo Dos Milagres Festival
[Updated with video] Bermuda’s Portuguese community came together today [May 1] to celebrate a centuries old tradition that originated in the Azores in the 17th century.
The “Festa do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres” [Festival of the Christ of Miracles], sees a solemn procession through Hamilton with participants walking on a carpet of flowers set down beforehand. Some 400 years old, the Festival is one of the largest religious celebrations in the Azores, and is also celebrated by the Portuguese diaspora across the globe.
