Students Graduate From New England Institute

May 6, 2016

A number of Bermudian students recently graduated from the New England Institute of Technology [NEIT], earning diplomas in various courses, including Cyber Security Technology, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and more.

The majority of these students received sponsorship from the Department of Workforce Development as well as financial awards from NEIT, which was made possible thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] signed between NEIT and the Department of Workforce Development.

The MOU stipulates that both organizations cooperate in education and training initiatives which will further develop the skilled labour force of Bermuda through developing and accessing educational programs.

NEIT has been working with the Bermuda Government for 15 years. Additionally, NEIT instructors have been offering short technical education training sessions in Bermuda on a ‘fee for service’ basis.

Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy said, “A need for training of Bermudians in the following areas of occupation has been identified: air conditioning technology, auto collision repair, automotive technology, carpentry, marine mechanics, electrical technology, construction, electronics, and plumbing technology.

“NEIT has been working collaboratively with the Department to identify an appropriate offering of courses designed to meet the social and economic development needs of Bermuda, even making changes to its curriculums in order to enhance the educational experience and relevance to Bermuda’s business environment.

“I wish to congratulate all of the recipients for their hard work and perseverance and thank NEIT for working with us for the betterment of Bermuda’s workforce.”

  6. Comment and Questions? says:

Comment: Congratulations to all who graduated – I do hope you do well in you chosen fields!

Questions: Was Bermuda College bypassed in this scheme or did some of these students go to Our college before going away? Doesn’t Bermuda College offer some of these same degrees? Is the government and the DofWD making a “big enough” effort to make sure our own teaching and learning resources are chosen first and are operating to full capacity?
