Family Centre Set To Hold Lip Sync Competition

June 9, 2016

The Family Centre is getting set to hold its Lip Sync Competition, with the contest open to the public and both individuals and teams invited to submit their lip sync videos by Friday, September 16.

Following those submissions, a live event will take place on November 3 at the Fairmont Southampton Mid Ocean Theatre.

A spokesperson said, “Last year, as part of its ‘Children Come First’ Telethon, Family Centre introduced a Lip Sync Competition that proved to be incredibly popular. Eight teams participated, with the winning team being the Arch Angels of Arch Re with their performance of “Lose My Breath” by Destiny’s Child.

“This year Family Centre is opening the competition up to the public and there is no fee to participate. Individuals or teams will need to submit their lip sync videos to familycentrebda@gmail.com by Friday, September 16.

“Each person or team will be set up with a personalized fundraising page which they can use to encourage people to vote for their video with donations of any size. The videos with the most funds raised, and some select ‘fan favorites,’ will advance to a live event taking place on November 3, 2016 at the Fairmont Southampton Mid Ocean Amphitheatre.

“Those advancing through will be announced on September 30th. More information regarding the live event will be available shortly.

“The goal with this event is to raise $50,000 in support of Family Centre’s vital programmes and services. Each year Family Centre supports hundreds of children and families in Bermuda through its Training & Advocacy, Community Programmes and Intensive Counselling Services.”

Executive Director of Family Centre Martha Dismont said, “We are very grateful to the team of people who are helping to make this event a reality this year, including Lindos Group of Companies who has agreed to assist us with marketing the event.

“The Lip Sync part of our 2015 Telethon was a huge success, and we are pleased to partner with the winning team from 2015 “the Arch Angels” and our incredible organizer Julia Mather and her team, to make sure we raise the dollars needed to support Family Centre services.

“As the community continues to “dig its way” out of a very challenging period, demand for services continues to increase. Every dollar raised will help to address this demand. We look forward to viewing the videos and having some fun on the evening at the live event.”

Lip Sync organizer Julia Mather said, “This is a cross-community event and we are looking for as many people as possible to get involved, have some fun and raise money for this very worthy charity along the way. The inspiration for this event is from the Jimmy Fallon Late Show and LL Cool-J’s “Lip Synch Battle” so, if you need some ideas, then you need look no further than YouTube.

“The filming does not need to be high-tech, a simple video from a cellphone or a Go-pro would be fine, and of course given that it’s a lip sync it doesn’t matter if you can hold a tune or not! Last time we had solo performers, groups, guys dressed as girls, school kids – all ages and levels of talent.

“But we know that there is a lot more talent where that came from so please have some fun with this over the summer and send in your videos before September 16.”

One member of the winning Arch Angels group said, “To be a part of Family Centre’s fundraising success was truly an honor. We appreciate and support Family Centre’s efforts in strengthening the family structure to sustain a brighter and better Bermuda.

“It’s not every day that we can let our hair down for a great cause; therefore, we strongly encourage other organizations to tap into their creative side and get involved.”
