Cybertips Team Reflects On Social Media Day

June 30, 2016

Bermuda’s Cybertips Team is reminding the public of Social Media Day, an event launched by Mashable in 2010 “as a way to recognize and celebrate social media’s impact on global communication.”

The event poster says, “Around the globe, there are about 2.08 billion people who are actively using social media. Since the coming age of the Internet era, more people have been logging in to digital forums, chat applications and now, an increasing use of smartphone applications. Communication is relatively easier anywhere and everywhere around the world.

“Cybertips.bm is Bermuda’s source of information on internet safety, brought to you by the Ministry of Economic Development and Department of E-Commerce. Our aim is to provide practical tips, resources and contact information to help parents, children and educators to use the internet and social media safely and be on guard against online predators and other inappropriate online content.

“By knowing the dangers and how to avoid them, you can take advantage of all the positive aspects of the Internet and social media while avoiding most of its pitfalls.”
