Video: Student Getting Tech Training At Air Care
Fifteen-year-old Stephon Paynter is helping to pioneer a new partnership aimed at exposing young Bermudians to the career opportunities available and skill sets required for the HVAC industry.
Air Care recently sponsored Impact Mentoring Academy and part of the support included Stephon coming on board as a summer student, shadowing and being trained by the Company’s Team of internationally certified technicians.
“It is hoped that Stephon will be the first of many students from Impact to be mentored by Air Care moving forward,” stated General Manager, Brendan Stones.
“Impact’s Trade Program, which incorporates a City and Guilds certification, is aligned with our need to ensure all technicians are internationally certified. That, together with our desire to bridge the gap of the very real shortage of Bermudians in our industry, creates a natural alignment for Air Care to become involved.”
He continued: “Impact Mentoring Academy does a fantastic job and we felt that this partnership was mutually beneficial – giving their students exposure to hands on technical training while hopefully encouraging some of them to choose our industry for future career paths.”
Stephon will spend two months shadowing Air Care’s technicians and has already been on commercial client sites including Richmond House and Washington Properties. He will spend the next two months rotating between technicians gaining valuable hands-on experience.
When asked about his experience and what he wishes to get out of it, Stephon said: “I’m here to learn about air conditioning, plumbing and electronics. I shadow the technicians and they teach me what they do during the day so I get a better understanding of what it would be like to become a technician at Air Care.”
He added: “I really appreciate the opportunity that Air Care has given me and I intend to make the most of it while I am here. I’m just trying to learn what everyone else knows and to soak up as much information as I can so that in the future when I go to school , I can come back I can be one of the best technicians they’ve ever had!”
Impact Mentoring Academy is an all-male Bermudian school, whose mission is to ‘empower young men to discover and develop their unique potential and deploy them into their divine destiny’.
