Irish Dancing Workshops To Be Held: July 11-15

July 1, 2016

The Bermuda Islands Pipe Band [BIPB] will be offering Irish Dancing workshops during the week of July 11-15, with both day and evening sessions to be available.

“Irish dancing is an exciting dance form, with a fascinating history and tradition. It is focused primarily on footwork, and performed either individually [step dancing] or by teams [céilí and set dancing],” a spokesperson said.

“Timing and rhythm are critical in Irish dancing. The intricate footwork, and stage shows such as Riverdance, has captured the imagination of the world outside of the Irish community.

“The BIPB Irish Dancing Workshops are available through a partnership with certified instructor, choreographer and adjudicator Jim Mueller, ADCRG.

“In addition to training dancers and teams that have placed at the World Championships, Jim has helped found schools in six western US states, and is currently the Vice-President of the North American Feis Commission, which governs over 200 Irish dance competitions in North America.

“The workshops will be held at the Sabor Dance School, Old Berkeley Institute [corner of St. John’s Road and Berkeley Hill]. Day sessions are offered from 9am to 5pm each day and the cost is $250 for the week.

“Evening Sessions are Monday and Friday from 6-8pm and Tuesday and Wednesday from 7-8pm and the cost is $125 for the week. A performance will conclude the week’s activities on July 16th.”
