America’s Cup Highlights “Ultimate Then & Now”
With 165 years of history behind it, the America’s Cup has had a long and storied past, with a recent tweet highlighting some of the differences between then and now by comparing the winning vessel of the event’s inaugural race and defending champion Oracle Team USA’s craft.
The photo associated with the tweet shows the two vessels alongside one another, showing the stark difference between them. and highlighting just how much the technology behind the race has changed over more than one and a half centuries.
A recent video aimed to detail the history of the prestigious racing event from its inception in 1851, with narrator Tucker Thompson opening by saying, “The America’s Cup is 165 years old and it all began here in England with a yacht race around the Isle of Wight.”
Comparing America with a foiling cat is like comparing a tag axle motorhome to a go cart.
Oh what a sailing feast next June is going to be!
