Artists Encouraged To Submit Public Art Ideas
The City of Hamilton is calling on artists throughout Bermuda to submit ideas for public art as the City prepares for another City Arts Festival.
“After successful installations and a well-attended event last year, the City of Hamilton will once again commission up to five works of art within its boundaries,” a spokesperson said.
“The City would like artists to propose public art for areas such as Tills Hill walls at the top of Court Street, Church Street wall at the top of Queen Street near the taxi stand, the bus terminal and other locations on city grounds.
“On October 15, 2016 the City Arts Festival will be hosted as a public event in Hamilton, exhibiting these permanent art displays while also representing the visual, musical and performance arts in a celebration of Bermuda’s art culture.
“This follows on from four public installations in 2015 where local artists Kendra Earls and Dennis Joaquin, Chewstick Community Arts Foundation, Nick Harney and Tiago Garcia and Bermuda National Gallery were commissioned for their work.
“The community continues to enjoy their work daily with the mural at the public bathrooms on Front Street and the lighting and painting of steps in Chancery Lane.
“Artists are encouraged to download the details of the RFP here or to email tbradshaw@cityhall.bm for more information. Proposals must be submitted by the August 24th deadline. Private sponsorship is also welcomed as a part of this initiative.”
