Flora Duffy Praised For ‘Magnificent Performance’
Today, on behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, the Minister of Social Development and Sports Sylvan Richards extended congratulations to Flora Duffy on her “magnificent performance” in placing in the top ten in the women’s triathlon at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“I am incredibly proud of Flora,” the Minister said. “I watched on the edge of my seat today as she swam, cycled and ran her way around the course showing incredible endurance and spirit and finishing eighth overall.
-
“Flora is an example to all of our aspiring young athletes that despite coming from a small island in the middle of the Atlantic, we can compete on the world stage against the best of the best.
“Indeed, Flora has competed all over the world and made her mark on this sport long before Rio – competing in Sweden, Canada, USA, Australia, England, Italy, South Africa and Hawaii, to name a few of the places her career as an athlete has taken her.
-
“Her performance has been truly superb, with her love of sport and her passion for triathlon in particular propelling her to many great achievements.
“Flora has made us all proud and I am very much looking forward to congratulating her in person upon her return.”
-
“I also want to congratulate all of our other athletes who competed in the Olympic Games this year,” the Minister said. “I had the pleasure of cheering on many of them in person and I couldn’t have been more proud of them.
“A huge congratulations to long jumper Tyrone Smith, sailors Cameron Pimentel and Ceci Wollmann, swimmers Julian Fletcher and Rebecca Heyliger, rower Michelle Pearson and sprinter Tre Houston.”
Our girl!!!!!!!
I am so proud of Flora Duffy. Congratulations and I wish Flora all the very best in her future endeavors!
Flora is someone our youth of Bermuda can look up to and hope one day they can be like her.
Congratulations on a swim, bike ride and run well done. I can’t imagine the stamina and training it took to achieve all of this.

Great job Flora!!
Not a fan of the drafting aloud in the Olympics cycle race! (Drafting is not permitted in triathlon) from what I hear
Keep flying the flag for us.
Proud to be Bermudian!
Congratulations for an excellent performance, I do hope that Government will place all of our athletes in the classroom from time to time to encourage our young people, as well encourage our working population to be involved in some type of exercise weekly.
I absolutely love what these pictures represent. AWESOME JOB FLORA!!! Ministers, can we have a parade of Olympians and a presentation for them please. The action, I’m sure will be appreciated. Can we start a national lottery for sports and education? It would be great if BDA can financially support all Olympians in their craft.
Why now ????????????????????????
Why not now?
