A police spokesperson said, “The nine new Constables were led by Parade Commander Acting Inspector Larry Dean. The Drill Instructor was Sergeant Derrick Golding.

“The nine members of RFC #77 were officially sworn in as police constables on 8th June 2016, and graduated after completing an eleven-week training course. This particular group of recruits is notable, as all of the officers came to service through the Bermuda Police Cadet Programme.

“There were several awards presented during the ceremony, including the Instructors Cup, an award that is given to the fastest male and female officer over the International 10 kilometre or 6 mile Flatts road running course.

“The Instructors Cup was presented to Constable 2502 Justice McDermot for the fastest time of 1:07:45 in the female category.

“The Instructors Cup was presented to Constable 2504 D’Vario Thompson for the fastest time of 55:12 in the male category.

“Te All Round Athlete & Physical Fitness Awards went to Constable 2502 Justice McDermot [female] and Constable 2504 D’Vario Thompson [male].

“The Deputy Commissioner’s Cup is for the best effort on the course and the officer who has made the most significant progress. The Deputy Commissioner’s Cup was awarded to Constable 2503 Sheri Scott

“The Academic Award was awarded to Constable 2505 Tavin Trott, who achieved an overall test average of 98%, which is the highest score on record for a RFC.

“The Commissioner’s Shield was awarded to Blue Syndicate led by Sergeant Dereck Golding; consisting of Constable 2498 Jordan Basden, Constable 2499 Crai-Che’ Hall, Constable 2500 Aisha Hendrickson, Constable 2502 Justice McDermot and Constable 2505 Tavin Trott.

“The award was collected by Constable 2499 Crai-Che’ Hall.

“The Baton of Honour was awarded to Constable 2498 Jordan Basden, who was selected as the “Best All Round” student officer by the Training Centre staff.

“It is a tradition of every Recruit Foundation Course to raise money in aid of a local charity. RFC #77 decided that the recipient of their generosity would be The Center Against Abuse. The group raised $1200.00 by completing a pedal bike relay across the island. Ms. Shiell, the Director for the Center Against Abuse was presented a cheque for that sum during the ceremony.

“On behalf of the Acting Commissioner of Police Mr. Paul Wright and the Bermuda Police Service would like to congratulate our nine new constables.”
