Polaris Supports Annual Labour Day 5K Fun Run
Polaris Holding Company CEO Warren Jones recently announced the company’s support of the annual Labour Day 5K Fun Run as part of the Bermuda TUC 70th Anniversary celebrations.
Mr. Jones presented organizer Andre Rochester of Swan’s Running Club with a cheque for $1,500 and joined in encouraging the community to sign up for the race on Monday, September 5.
Mr. Jones said, “The team that powers our dock operations, the Stevedores, have a long history with the union. Their contribution to Bermuda and the Labour movement is significant and it is a natural move to become partners for the race during this anniversary year.”
Mr. Rochester said, “Swan’s Running Club is pleased to be a part of this historic moment and encourages the entire community to sign up to participate, get active or compete or simply come and support the runners.”
A spokesperson said, “The annual Labour Day run has been ramped up in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the labour movement in Bermuda. The adult runners and walkers will race along a 5K route starting at 8.30am and the junior participants will compete on a 2.4K route starting at 8.00am.
“Both races will start and finish at the Union Square. The first 200 participants will receive goody bags and there will be prize winners in the Juniors [4 age categories], Open [20-39], Masters [40-49], Seniors [50-59], Veterans [60-69] and Super Veteran [70+] categories.
“In honour of the Labour movement’s historic celebration, there is a special competition between the various unions. The union with the highest percentage of participants will win the Trade Union Congress [TUC] plaque.
“Registration is still available online at racedayworld.com until Friday, September 2 at 6.00pm. There will be a race number pick up and late registration at the BIU Headquarters on Dundonald Street from 10.00am until 1.00pm on Saturday, September 3.”
