September 21, 2016

The tanker vessel Corvette diverted to Bermuda yesterday [Sept 20] due to an ill crew member, who was eventually taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial hospital for treatment.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Tuesday, September 20 at 1.30pm, Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a call from Meyer Shipping Agency advising that the 48,060 GRT, Bahamas-registered LPG tanker Corvette was inbound to Bermuda to disembark an ill crew member.

“The Filipino national, who had been suffering from severe bouts of coughing since joining the vessel, showed no sign of improvement following medical advice from ashore and administration of medicines on-board.

“M/T Corvette, originally en route from the Bahamas bound for Tarragona, Spain, diverted from a position 64 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, for patient disembarkation Tuesday evening.

“Shortly after 6.00pm, the patient was transferred via pilot boat St. David to Ordnance Island, and taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.”
