Three Bermudians Teaching At School In China
Three Bermudians are now teaching in China after grabbing a chance to gain new experience working overseas.
Alex Godfrey and Kelsey Pichery have joined follow Bermudian Emily Chadderton to work at Dulwich International High School in Suzhou, China. Also joining Ms Chadderton is Cameron Kuebler, who studied in Bermuda for four years.
All are former Saltus Grammar School students who have just graduated from university and who were hired by Daniel Dorrington, Head of Boarding at the school and a former Saltus teacher. They have been given one-year internships.

Mr Godfrey is a boarding tutor responsible for a floor of 32 pupils in years 10 to 13, assisting with marketing, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, after-school PE a well as supporting the Visual and Performing Arts and Alumni department.
“I chose to come to China because I have always wanted to travel and experience new places. I read an article about Emily’s first year in Suzhou and saw that the school wanted more people and I thought it was the perfect opportunity.
“My decision was definitely helped by the fact that there were other Bermudians out here,” said Mr Godfrey.
He added: “Working in a school is a completely new experience for me, but it has been fantastic. I really just plan to get involved with as many things as possible and have fun.
“If I do that, I know it will be a positive experience. In my time off, I’m excited to explore China and some other countries.”
Ms Pichery is also a boarding tutor responsible for a floor of 44, Year 10 to 13 students as well as giving academic support to the English department.
“Dulwich has an amazing international reputation and being a recent graduate, unsure of my path, the chance work in a fantastic school in China was a golden opportunity for me.
“Now, because of this opportunity, I have decided to pursue my PGCE next year and continue on my path of becoming a teacher,” said Ms Pichery.
“I sought Dulwich International High School for a chance to try something more fulfilling than a routine sales position in the United States,” added Mr Kuebler, who is a boarding tutor for 40 students and is assigned to the Economics department.
“I hope to spend my time exploring the possibilities of a career in education and administration. I also wish to experience new places and cultures overseas.”
Ms Chadderton is in her second year at the school working as a boarding tutor while also undertaking a PGCE to become a PE teacher.
Mr Dorrington, whose wife Rebecca also worked at Saltus, said: “We are delighted to welcome Alex, Kelsey and Cameron. They have already proved to be a great addition to our team and I think they will have a great experience in China.”
Jon Beard, Saltus Deputy Head, said: “It is great to see former students getting this kind of experience which will be invaluable to them later in life.”
