One of London’s best places to stay is the Athenaeum Hotel. Overlooking Green Park in Piccadilly in the heart of Mayfair, the five-star luxury hotel was rated one of the world’s best by Travel and Leisure in 2008.
Jeremy Hopkins, general manager of the Athenaeum Hotel, said staff training is key in understanding the guest experience. Part of that training is that each new employee spends a day as a guest and eats three meals so they can walk in the shoes of what it is like for the customer.
“How do you know what the guest is experiencing unless you’ve experienced yourself?” asked Mr. Hopkins.
The hotel went through a recent redesign to help enhance that experience by creating more open space and bringing in more natural light.
The Athenaeum prides itself on catering to children and Mr. Hopkins said the kids concierge is “a fantastic thing.” They know keeping the kids happy and satisfied will also make the experience better for the parents as well.
The hotel works with BA Holidays and books many Bermuda residents. In addition to working with Bermuda’s hotels, BA Holidays also sells tickets to popular tourist attractions such as the Crystal Caves, the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo and tours of the city of Hamilton. British Airways will be celebrating 80 years of service to Bermuda next year.
