  1. aceboy says:

Where were these people when the hospital wing was built? PLP did that…so it was fine, no matter how far over budget it went. The fact that a charity had to be set up to collect $40million to help with financing seems to be totally forgotten.

I wonder if the lady holding the sign can give us a detailed explanation of what she means by Credit Rate Agency Guarantee is debt? Or did someone shove a sign in her hands?

    • Smh says:

It always baffles me when people justify poor decisions of the future with bad ones made in the past….

      • aceboy says:

I am not justifying anything, merely asking where were the protestors during the lead up to the hospital *wing* being built?

Smh…maybe you can provide an explanation of the sign the lady is holding up? Enlighten us.

      • inna says:

Surely what is even more baffling is how people label government projects as “good” or “poor” depending upon who the govt is ?

The point aceboy is highlighting is that these protesters seem to be protesting for the sake of protesting. Not one of them look younger than 50, all of whom are most likely retired or unemployed, with not much else to do on this fine Monday but go around the HOA and hold signs.

      • Bermyman says:

Please highlight what poor decision you are referring to and why it is a poor decision? Please use facts only as the basis of your argument.

    • Serious Though says:

when someone exercise their right to vote and protest.. That’s democracy..

      • Bermyman says:

When a democratically elected government makes decisions and enacts those decisions as they were elected to do so. THAT IS DEMOCRACY!

        • kermit the stooge says:

very well said. they were ELECTED by the people to run the country and hopefully get us OUT OF THE MESS thge previous govt got us into by their allowing massive cost over runs with no accountability to the detriment of some $800,000.000.00 we now dont have nor know where to re claim said amount from.

        • Onion Juice says:

          Ya like Trump.

      • Point boy says:

        Or, perhaps ignorance!

    • hmmm says:

Sadly I think some of these people are being used.

The signs show a lack of comprehension and understanding of reality.

Using/manipulating of these people borders on abuse…whoever are the ringleaders ought to be ashamed of themselves!

    • Mary says:

last time I went to school there was a space between separate words

      • Kathy says:

Absolutely degrading and not a constructive comment!

        • Just the Tip says:

Well if you want to split hairs, it actuall is a constructive comment due to the fact they are pointing out that words are poorly spaced. Suggesting that they should space the words out better will mean their point gets across clearer.

    • Gotta luv em says:

Yes PLP did the Hospital under as sorts of pressures. ..and when it was completed. The OBA took credit. 2 Did a fund raising tours..3 posed for cameras.. and4 without the courtesy of inviting one PLP member. .

    • oh dear says:

Which one of these ‘protesters’ work- if any? As for the Acute Care Wing, don’t overlook the extra $75m that McAlpine’s had to put in the pot. When will this whole construction project come under scrutiny and the ‘audited’ financials be published? What effect did the decision not to proceed with the medic-tourism idea have on the cost of the ACW?

    • Onion Juice says:

      DEMOCRACY, gotta love it.

      • Toodle-oo says:

Of course this is an example of democracy in your eyes. But when the OBA , who was elected to govern , makes decisions you don’t like it’s not democracy .
        Hypocrite !

    • Kathy says:

We don’t need a new airport!

      • Just the Tip says:

And this comment is based on what facts and observations?

      • Bill says:

You obviously haven’t traveled lately. The airport is outdated and in need of some serious maintenance.

  2. Onion says:

    lool!

I bet all the people protesting voted for the PLP who ran up $400 million of debt in A YEAR.

    • Serious Though says:

this should call for a post , before PLP government about.. let’s see…. stay tuned , will choose the best for ya..

      • Bermyman says:

When a democratically elected government makes decisions and enacts those decisions as they were elected to do so. THAT IS DEMOCRACY!

      • Point boy says:

        What??

    • aceboy says:

That was done to pay off all the expenses that came as a result of 14 years of mismanagement. Like interest on the 2billion debt the PLP accumulated and giving Civil Service jobs out like Halloween candy.

  3. Too True says:

Obviously these people have never seen more than the “customer facing” parts of the airport.. The place has been falling apart for years!! It should have been replaces 10-15 years ago!!

Repairing the existing airport is NOT a cost effective option, the building is beyond it’s “sell by date”

    • Just the Tip says:

I just came back from NY and both leaving and coming back i was looking around the airport. In places there was clear markings of water damage from what can only be leaks in the roof, at points where there were ‘exposed’ beams you could see the rust that was showing through the chipped and cracked paint leaving me with the thought that the rust was going the whole length of the beam which can only mean more damage to the walls.

Now yes, I’m looking for issues and yes I’m not a mason or engineer or anything in the construction industry but if i’m looking and seeing things that make me go “Um… that doesn’t look right” well then whats going on in the parts I couldn’t see?

I was wondering, is it possible for people to hire someone to come look over airport. The reason i ask this is maybe what the goverment needs to do is let the naysayers hire someone (on their own dime) to come in and do a check. then maybe we can all agree that the airport needs to be replaced.

    • Gotta luv em says:

      Breaking News

It’s possible to support a new airport tetminal ..and be against a borderline corrupt contractual deal..

      • hum. hmmmm says:

You mean like Port Royal? I haven’t seen anything here that is even borderline… What I see is normal contract negotiations… Lets be real, you can’t put everything out there for the competition to see…

      • Billy Bob says:

The Bermuda government does not have the money to pay out front for a new airport unless you want them to increase taxes 10 fold to get it out of the way asap. If maybe some of the 1 percentagers on this island would have shown some interest into building us a new airport when the Government was offering it perhaps this wouldn’t be happening and the prices to do it wouldn’t be so high.
        Privatise
        Privatise
        Privatise

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

It’s also possible that this isn’t a ‘borderline corrupt contractual deal’, just got to actually read the whole deal and grasp it outside of an ideological and in a reality based world. Ideologies are what the weak populist parties push, knowing full well they can’t deliver on them, because in truth, ideologies only exist in fantasies, and never survive the realities of human nature.

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Anyone who has seen the ‘costumer facing’ parts of the airport knows it needs to be replaced. Even the newest parts are breaking down, because they were piecemealed together.

    • Kathy says:

New roof fixes everything – we don’t need a new airport!

  4. Toleratate says:

not surprising… I had November 14th on my betting sheet… didn’t factor in for the change in leadership…
    SMH

  5. inna says:

It is sad that some Bermudians put so much effort into things like this !

    • Jess says:

Why do you care what Bermudians do? You’re here making money, wright?

    • Kathy says:

Why is it sad? Don’t they have a right to be heard?

  6. Jus' Wonderin' says:

Nothin but OLD people and n OLD mindset

  7. gummi bear grip n sip says:

    Watch out, Bermuda! PROTESTERS! PROTESTING!

  8. bee says:

i will bet that NOT ONE of these people can name a Credit Agency let alone tell us what they do and how they do it. and i will wager further none of them have even read the documents let alone the deal.

  9. Terry says:

    Rent a Protest Group.

Are they in the phonebook or do they have a Web Site?

  10. Tom 1 says:

The life expectancy for the air port was 10 years ago. We can not take the bandaid approach. People forget that the PLP drew up plans ($3 million worth of plans) for a new air port before they were voted out. I still have yet to hear them come up with a better alternative plan.

    • Toleratate says:

People don’t forget because most don’t use that grey matter between their ears… Bermuda has a sheep mentality when it comes to politics… I call it the “Cup Match Syndrome”…. NO matter what their Party does they will ALWAYS back them… Corruption (see COI and AG Report), in house back-stabbing (facts)… and STILL they want more of it….. I’m not saying that the OBA is great, and I hope the PLP can be at least an option in the future…. but if you think they are a better option NOW…. and the way forward for Bermuda… than we are surly doomed (facts)….
      SMH

  11. BIRE says:

GO DO SOMETHING USEFUL … I guess you lot do not travel because if you did you would see the dire straights of a new airport…

On my travels to the US and Europe and have seen many beautiful airports where safety and comfort awaits you and I compare them to Bermuda’s airport ours is a disgrace and in dire need of repair.

Its time Bermuda to get on flight and get moving forward with this new exciting venture. FOR ALL OUR BERMUDIANS WHO LOVE TO TRAVEL

  12. Mary says:

no no no no no no no no here we go again

  13. Jus' Askin' says:

We could finance and build our own airport ;-)

OBA’s approach to this airport deal proves They Do Not Care about BERMUDIANS :-(

Why is the Finance Minister in front of this?
Seems like he has vested interest in this deal ;-)

OBA is looking out for whom?

Everyone agrees Bermuda needs an upgraded airport

We need to get rid of this deal and OBA and it’s members be made to pay the penalty for such a DUMB DEAL ;-) ;-)

Chasing around for Pay Roll Tax & Social Insurance Monies but allowing this new airport to pay NONE for Years :-(

    RICH GETTING RICHER……..

    ROAD to ELECTION 2017 :-D

    • hum. hmmmm says:

We could finance and build our own airport … huh>>>>> Yeah the PLP coud finance it with the *))million that is missing!!!!

  14. tere b says:

These people look like they’ve been dragged out of a rest home!

  15. BIRE says:

for sure should have been repaired years ago… Yes I agree our roads need to be repaired as well.. I would rather know where our money is going rather than what has happened in the past..

  16. Warlord says:

I see the PLP rounded up the troops from Matilda Smith rest home .Usual rent a crowd that don’t even know what the signs mean.Bermuda is another world

    • Inferior to you says:

Why do we(you) have to insult peoples intelligence or undermine it because they don’t LOOK the part. maybe if they were of a different color or dressed up in suits, what they look like and the message displayed would be of relevance!?! Bermuda is indeed another world made up of SAD and PATHETIC people like YOU!! Must be nice to be educated and superior….Warlord….I mean MYLORD! SMH

      • Steve D says:

the messages they hold up don’t make sense that is why people are insulting their intelligence. You know kinda the same way people were making remarks about Trump supporters, no different!

      • Warlord says:

It is nice to be educated and if more people were then we would not have all the ignorance of race card politics in this country.Back at ya inferior to you

        • inferior to you says:

its funny you want to mention race when your first comment was only that, a racist comment based on the groups appearance…what a hypocrite not to mention a comment full of contradictions and you want people to have your level of intelligence and education….no thanks! Haha BTW I find it funny when the offspring of the inventors of the race card want to cry wolf when it has now backfired! LOL wont be engaging with you anymore…. youre an example why one should stay in school

        • inferior to you says:

Whats even more sad is that people are judged on appearance and not on character….I see a man in the picture that was beat to a pulp, trying to protect a drunk English man, vacationing with his family, whom unleashed a barrage of racial comments at the group because he thought that they had said something disrespectful to the daughter which the daughter denied but he wasn’t having it. The man tried to intervene and break it up and got his azz kicked. I know this because I was the one who was going to call the police but he insisted that I didn’t in fear of the men getting locked up for something that they didn’t start.

    • inferior to you says:

These are the same people that don’t see color…I guarantee you that they would welcome you in their home with open arms like most Bermudians would…..can you say they same? But your going to post nasty comments based on what they look like. That is sad! Karma is….. remember that!

  17. truth teller says:

Or maybe they want the PLP to rebuild it at 500 million, and that don’t include the OVER RUNS, as to the 250 million the oba is building it for.

  18. Takbir Karriem Sharrieff says:

These nasty comments made by obviously O.B.A. supporters at P.L.P supporters holding signs up outside The House of Assembly ,exercising their right to protest peacefully ,,outside a Government Building, while L.b.g.t.q. Protestors can assemble in large crowds outside the Cabinet Building on front street in front of the Sally Basset Statue on the grounds,,, Unashamedly, mostly white and O.B.A. supporters with young children on their shoulders making it a family affair, gives me pause to reflect. Bermuda has not changed its racist attitude since 1959 ,nor their behaviors , ,,,,,think about it.Peace.

    • Steve D says:

If all OBA supporters were white then how is it possible that they won the last election? And are the people who comment on these protesters in a negative way also not exercising their right to freedom of speech. people are commenting on the fact that these people are ill informed as the signs they are holding do not make sense. Calling a Spade a Spade, but of course you cannot do that or someone will get offended right!

    • hmmm says:

Your post should GIVE YOU pause to reflect. Takbir Karriem Sharrieff has not changed his racist attitude since 1959 ,nor his behavior.

    • hum. hmmmm says:

And what about the PLP supporters that blocked the HOA… but that was OK because they were PLP… Not to mention that some of the actions were (not) borderline illegal/

    • bdaboy says:

more hate speech from Takbir. go away

  19. Osserver says:

Maybe they should have a sign the asks What happened to the $11,000,000 that the U.S. gave to the PLP for the causeway bridge

  20. wahoo says:

Just tallying up some approximate numbers and to rebuild airport, fix bridges, repair schools and supply with computers would cost roughly $800M.

  21. BullyBreed says:

I see the paid protesters are hard at work again. The brilliance of Burt’s supporters.

    • TimBuc says:

Get a grip people are untitled to free speech. Some of these comments are like beating a dead horse.

  22. Fur says:

Get a life people…you guys should be ashamed of yourselves for asking these people to sit out in the cold and hold signs in protest of which they no nothing about.
Stop brainwashing our young minds. Bermuda is headed in the right direction and the “stick in the mud” crowd will be left behind. We need a new airport and the longer we put it off the more it will cost.
Stop all the negativity…it is not good for our Island or our future. Think about it…..this is for our kids and grandkids. This will create jobs and be a beautiful front line for our travellers vacation experience.

  23. O.M.G says:

Ya where were you all when your party was spending all your money. Nothing said then.

  24. Up D hill says:

What a comedy show same people being told to hold signs designed by a 10 year old! None of your signs make sense, ,, go home!!!

  25. Go assist a charity! says:

It is beyond understanding these theatrics! Go and assist a charity, clear a road way, pick up trash, volunteer in a school….be part of a solution and not creating problems.

    • inferior to you says:

LOL you don’t have a clue!!! most of these people have done more for this island than you would ever do!! hahaha I know you are not Bermudian and don’t have a clue who some of them are! the more I read your comment the funnier it gets. That is the same husband and wife and brother that provides meals for needy kids and also goes around providing meals for the homeless out of THEIR pockets not to mention picking up the elderly and taking them to Dr appointments. Your comment would be funny if it weren’t so sad! What have YOU done lately? haha what a loser! Just because they are exercising a right that they have and support and one that YOU don’t agree with means that they haven’t contributed to this island?? Unbelievable!!! Must be nice being you!! (sarcasm)

  26. ian says:

The racist and disgraceful comments and “old folks home” comments really remind me that certain people in this island will never want a Bermuda for all of us

    • inferior to you says:

I agree and we all know they are not coming from Bermudians, black or white or other. These are comments that will hurt the oba at the next election. Dummies don’t even realize what they are doing to hurt the obas chances! I can assure you some Bermudians may not be educated but most Bermudians can read!

      • Toodle-oo says:

And how do you know they’re not coming from Bermudians at all ?
Have you got some really cool app on your computer that reveals these things ?
        Tell me .. am I a Bermudian .. ?
Furthermore , if these remarks are not coming from Bermudians how can they affect ANY political party’s chances at the next election ?
Are these remarks , or any remarks , affecting the way you would vote ? I strongly doubt it .

        • inferior to you says:

I wont answer your question whether your Bermudian or not because no matter what, you would just claim to be opposite just to TRY and prove a point but the fact that you even responded to my comment tells me enough! Some of these stereotypical racist comments can have a big affect on the outcome of the next election because people don’t know who they are coming from but know they are coming from people who support an OBA Government! Bermudians know the affect that it can have!! These people that these comments are directed at are mothers, fathers friends of others who have made significant contributions to this island in ways you couldn’t imagine! Like my comment stated above there is a husband and wife that have done so much for this country in feeding and taking care of the needy out of their pockets, young and old! When people, who have been positively impacted,by the same people who have been insulted, read these posts it can have an affect on who they vote for….especially if its coming from people who support the OBA government!! Voting is the most effective way of getting your point across or having your voice heard….lets see in the next election and remember what I said! Not engaging with you anymore….Gday

          • Toodle-oo says:

LOL , of course you’re not going to answer the question because you’ve already exposed yourself as an uneducated xenophobe who can’t possibly entertain the thought that anyone who says anything that you disagree with could possibly be a son of the soil .
As for all this crap that any remarks made on line are damaging to the OBA and could affect voters , another huge LOL
Did remarks about shooting people in the heads , watching Hamilton burn while laughing , back to the plantation and shackles change your vote in the past ?
            Nope !
So cut it with the BS

            • inferior to you says:

Sorry, but I feel the need to respond one last time because we agree on something…thats LOL! I don’t recall calling you uneducated because I didn’t agree with you neither do I recall responding to any of your comments to upset you unless I hit a nerve and what I said applies to you which seems logical.LOL
Xenophobe? Does that apply when I have been married to a Beautiful foreigner for 20+ yrs? LOL As for your last question, neither of those affected my vote in the past, nor did I state that comments affected MY vote but I know for a fact stereotypical racial comments will have an affect when others vote because a lot of us have been around to see history repeating itself but under a different disguise namely the UBP. I actually changed my vote Dec 2012 based on the policies and platform in which the OBA ran on, that seemed very promising, especially with all the controversy and questionable practices of the former Government but thanks for your baseless, uninformed reply and showing me your true color! LOL with saying that I will not respond no matter what you say to get a response…G’nite

            • PBanks says:

I think that “Do you want this man as your Finance Minister” ad back in ’98 turned at least a few heads, at least.

Thing about online forums and the like, since most people commenting fall squarely into one of two camps, their minds aren’t going to be changed by vitriol against one group or another, but those who are truly neutral or on the fence, there’s a chance they’ll feel empathy for those being shouted at. Of course they’re less likely to post on these forums in the first place (but they may at least read them).

  27. Jahstice says:

De signs make no sense. Paid PLP supporters trying to cause crap, as they look for scraps.

  28. Swing Voter says:

they have a right to protest…..they do not have a right to impede the government from sitting in HOA and conduct business. they do not have a right to walk off the job and expect to be paid. they do not have a right to moan and complain when the rental ferry makes runs when M&P staff refuse to operate and maintain their ferries. My tax payer dollars need to work for all of us!

  29. serengeti says:

“Credit rate agency guarantee is debt”

What is that supposed to mean?

How about “Providing guarantee increases default”?

    Anybody?

  30. Sara says:

You know, it is shameful that nobody protested when Bermuda was being put down the rabbit hole over the last 10 years. A real shame. I am fine with these people doing this, but I hope they realize that they wouldn’t even need to care about this had the last government not spent every last penny and then some that Bermuda had…

    • bdaboy says:

Bermudians (some) will protest equal rights legislation….that speaks volumes about their character. Very closed minded people.
