Technology Innovation Awards On Thursday
Finalists for the Technology Innovation Awards will gather Thursday evening at the Hamilton Princess to learn who will take home the top honours in 2016.
This is the tenth year of celebration of the best of Bermuda’s technology sector.
A spokesperson said, “The finalists in the Most Innovative Mobile App include the Bermuda Broadcasting Company whose Olympic App revolutionized sports watching in Bermuda, enabling fans to view round-the-clock coverage on 13 channels streamed live over their phones or tablets.
“BeneFISHiary App that helps consumers make informed decisions about the fish they eat, provides the best information available on nutritional data of local and imported fish available in Bermuda.
“And Bavarian Brews App, which makes it possible to order their authentic German beer from one’s Android or Apple device.
“Bermuda Department of Statistics, Go!eries Bermuda, and Bermuda Virtual Tours comprise the Innovation of the Year finalists in the Local market Category.
“For the first time, the Department of Statistics has captured census data using an online platform created by Fireminds Limited which successfully completed 72% of assessment numbers in record time with tremendous cost savings. While busy and home-bound, individuals can now order and pay for food and household item and have them delivered through Gro!eries Bermuda.
“The third finalist offers clients the opportunity to have 360 degree panoramic virtual tours of their business or real estate property on the Google Street View trusted platform.
“The International Category has three highly competitive finalists with nominations for First Atlantic Commerce’s multi-currency financial transaction platform developed for big-box retailer Pricesmart’s Caribbean & Central America markets.
“IT also includes Gateway Systems’ CAPS automated fee processing and clearance system developed for BVI’s Customs. And an entry by Hamilton Insurance Group for their website whose proprietary algorithms, geolocalisation and predictive analytics mean it learns with every click, providing a customized experience for every user interested in the company writing the future of risk.
“And the always inspiring Youth Category who has three 2016 finalists continue to build upon the foundation of Bermuda’s future as a technology center. The Ministry of Education’s S.T.E.A.M. Academy created to enrich, immerse, and engage students in a multitude of innovative disciplines.
“Saltus Grammar School’s Design, Technology & IT Programms which feature the Digicel App Development competition and the school’s 3D Printer programm.
“And last, but not least is BIOS’s Marine Science Internship Program, specifically 14-year old Jacari Renfroe who develop an instrument that has allowed researchers to assess bacterial production in water samples taken on research cruises.
“The Ministry of Economic Development has sponsored the Technology Innovation Awards since 2006.”
Dr. Grant Gibbons, Minister of Economic Development, said, “The TechAwards allow the Department of E-Commerce to recognize the Bermuda residents and Bermuda-based organizations which have provided notable technology solutions to Bermuda and its residents.
“Every year, the winners demonstrate that Bermuda has what it takes when it comes to technological innovation and achievement.”
The TechAwards will be presented on Thursday, November 17 in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week’s Rocket Pitch Awards during the Celebration of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the Hamilton Princess Hotel.
