Court: Two Women Deny Importing Cannabis

Two women from Canada appeared in Magistrates Court today [Dec 13] where they were charged with conspiring with others to import cannabis, which was said to be worth over $544,000.

29-year-old Amanda Huggins and 28-year-old Mekeela Lye were charged with conspiring with others to import cannabis, which was alleged to have been between a date unknown and 1st December 2016.

A second charge was that on 1st December, in St George’s, they possessed  cannabis and did so with intent to supply. Both Huggins and Lye pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate that the alleged weight of the substance was 10,896 grams with an alleged street value of $544,825.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo set bail at $15,000 for each woman; required a surety in a like amount for each woman; ordered the surrender of all their travel documents; and ordered them to report to Southside Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Their trial was set for March 2017.
