‘It Is Exciting To Work For Global Organization’
Christina White is a Graphic Designer for the America’s Cup Event Authority [ACEA], working as part of the design team who create all the artwork for the America’s Cup including boat decals, event village banners, logos, America’s Cup Endeavour sails and much much more. Here, she talks about her role and what she loves about Bermuda.
1. Tell us a little bit of your background and what you love most about Bermuda.
I was born and raised in Bermuda where I attended Mount Saint Agnes Academy, before studying at the University of Tampa. There I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design. Upon returning to Bermuda, I worked for a local newspaper for seven years, before joining the team at the America’s Cup Event Authority.
There could never be just one thing I love about Bermuda. I love its all over beauty [including the people], I love that nearly all my family live here, and now I have a new found love and respect for the big and beautiful crystal blue ocean and the winds that surround us. There are endless things I could say, but all the little things are what make me love Bermuda as a whole.
2. What is your role at ACEA and what does it entail?
I am a Graphic Designer for the America’s Cup Event Authority. I am part of the design team that create all the artwork for the America’s Cup, including artwork for the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series events all around the world, and I continue designing for the events next year in Bermuda 2017.
My role includes, but is not limited to, the layout and design of the smallest items such as a garment tags for merchandise and digital items for the internet, to larger items like the grandstand and towers at the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Chicago event.
3. What sort of opportunities have you had through this position?
This position has allowed me the opportunity to understand how a truly international sporting event is developed and becomes reality, and how sponsors – big international companies, local companies and small businesses alike – can come together to make the events a success.
4. How does it feel working for a global organization?
It is very exciting to work for a global organization. Meeting and working with people from all over the world who come from different backgrounds has been an incredible opportunity and learning experience. But most of all, being able to see my designs come to life on live TV is a very proud and exciting moment for me.
5. Have you attended the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series events worldwide and if so, what have your responsibilities been?
Other than working at the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Bermuda event, I also travelled to the event in New York in May 2017. Although I did not travel to all the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series events, my responsibilities for each jurisdiction remain the same.
Together with the design team, I design and create the artwork for the event village, boat branding for hospitality and chase boats, VIP hospitality branding, and closer to the events we create some digital assets for people who follow the event through social media.
6. What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is to know that Bermuda residents and my family will be able to see the hard work that my fellow colleagues and I have contributed to make the 35th America’s Cup a great event for the Cup and Bermuda.
Well done Christina! go Bermuda!
