The vessel Molto Bene recently diverted to Bermuda after becoming dismasted on a voyage from Maryland to the U.S. Virgin Islands, arriving in St. George’s after losing her mast some 320  miles southwest of Bermuda.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Tuesday December 13 at 6.40am, the 42 foot sloop MOLTO BENE with three persons onboard contacted RCC Bermuda via a friend ashore to advise that they were diverting to Bermuda after becoming dismasted during their planned voyage between Annapolis, Maryland and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“The vessel was 320 miles southwest of Bermuda when she lost her mast. Direct satellite telephone contact was made with the yacht the next morning and a routine communication/position reporting schedule initiated as they motored towards the island with the Molto Bene eventually arriving under her own power in St. George’s Harbour at 7:25am on Thursday, December 15.
