Three Sailors Rescued By Nearby Yacht

December 6, 2022

Three sailors — traveling from Massachusetts to Bermuda — were rescued after their 44 ft trimaran started taking on water approximately 250 miles north west of Bermuda.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Sunday 04th December, 08:09 am – RCC Norfolk contacted RCC Bermuda regarding the 44 ft Trimaran Buddy which was enroute to Bermuda from Woods Hole, Massachusetts and had started taking on water with 3 persons on board.

“The yacht broadcast a distress message by VHF radio, from a position 250 miles north west of Bermuda, thankfully the yacht Vamoose was only 8.5 miles away from the distress position and also inbound for Bermuda.

“The crew of the Trimaran abandoned into a dinghy and were picked up by the crew onboard Vamoose only a few minutes later, which was incredibly lucky considering their location. Vamoose made good speed to Bermuda and the three rescued sailors arrived into St Georges Harbour early on Monday evening, the crew were uninjured and in good spirits considering their ordeal.”
