Eight Athletes Qualified For 2017 Carifta Games
Eight Bermuda athletes have qualified so far for the 2017 Carifta Games, Bermuda National Athletics Association President Donna Raynor said, adding that they have until March 26th to name the team, so there is still time for athletes to reach the standards.
Ms Raynor said, “Before this week we started with five athletes qualified. During the local track meet this past weekend we had two athletes who met the qualifying standard. Amelia Othman [U18] in the High Jump leaping 1.60m with the standard at 1.55m, unfortunately she is too young. Johndell Cumberbatch [U18] qualified in the 3000m running a time of 9:42.80 with the standard at 9:45.00.
“There were some athletes who competed in a track meet in Barbados, The February Classic 2017, and we had 2 athletes reach the qualifying standard. Telilah Wears [U18] in the 200m running a time of 25.42 with the standard 25.70. Deneo Brangman [U18] qualified in 2 events 200m running a time of 22.43 with the standard 22.52 and the 400m running a time of 49.77 with the standard 49.96.
“We still have a few athletes who are close to the standard Stephan Dill [U20] in the 100m 10.9 qualifying 10.75 and the 200m 22.13 qualifying 21.80, Dlevonte Lodge [U18] 200m 23.22 qualifying 22.52 and 100m 11.4 qualifying 11.03, Lejaun Matthews[U18] 100m 11.6 qualifying 11.03 and 200m 23.73 qualifying 22.52. Zekiah Lewis [U18] LJ 5.28m qualifying 5.45m, Tilda Norman [U18] 1500m 5:13.3 qualifying 5:02. Aaron Jacobs [U18] 800m 2:03.07 qualifying 2:03.00.
“We also have a few athletes overseas and we are waiting to receive results from them soon; Tiara Derosa, Djymon Reid, Suresh Black and a few others. At the moment we are looking at eight athletes who have met the standard:
- Ashley Irby [U18] 3000m, 1500m
- Lyndsey Palmer [U18] 3000m
- Sakari Famous [U18] High Jump
- Telilah Wears [U18] 200m
- Deneo Brangman [U18] 200m & 400m
- Elisha Darrell U[20] High Jump
- Johndell Cumberbath [U18] 3000m
- Kevin Miller [U20] High Jump
“We have until March 26th to name our team, so we still have some time for the athletes to reach the standards,” Ms Raynor added.
