2 Hour Video: Panel Discussion On Job Market
The Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU] is hosting their 6th Triennial Delegate Conference Conference, with the theme “Modernizing the Union to Navigate Current & Future Challenges”.
The opening session was held this morning [March 9] with a panel discussion on “Tackling Unemployment and the Change in Bermuda’s Job Market,” with BPSU President Jason Hayward, former Premier Sir John Swan, Deputy PLP Leader Walter Roban, and statistician Cordell Riley serving as panelists.
The full 2-hour live video replay is below:
Why is John Swan on his own couch and the other 3 sharing one?
Weird optics.
Because he dont want to be contaminated.
Cordell Riley sits up there and blames the dramatic job losses in Bermuda on the US financial crisis instead of term limits and PLP mismanagement. That’s where I stopped watching. Bunch of jokers.
Cornell needs to acknowledge the fact that the recession in the USA and Bermuda were very different. The recession was not global and did not affect every country. The USA’s neighbours to the North – Canada continued to do very well at the same time the USA was suffering.
The PLP and their policies was the reason why MANY companies picked up and left or moved parts of their companies overseas. They did not close their doors due to lack of business, they left and took the jobs with them to other jurisdictions. In addition to that, the PLP wasted money, overspent, and borrowed!
Most people also know that the unemployment figures during the PLPs final years should have been much higher. However, they hid the harsh reality by simply hiring approximately 1,000 people into the Civil Service. That in turn increased the Governments payroll and put us further into debt.
Name one construction project that was not awarded to someone directly associated with the PLP. Berkeley, DLME Bldg, TCD, Bda Emissions, Port Royal, Cruise Ship Peir, Of those projects and any others you can think of – how many did not go MILLIONS of $$$ overbudget.
There you have it Cordel and company – a condensed version of why we are suffering today. Spend, borrow and blame. ZERO Accountability.
Facts……and then there was silence.
John Swan is next level! He could drop the mic after that opening gambit.
Have to wonder, besides Sir John Swan, have any of the other panellists been responsible for the creation of a single job? Being responsible for inflating the size of the CS does not count.
Only one of those panelists has any meaningful business experience or track record of job creation.
In fact Hayward and Roban have only ever destroyed jobs and limited opportunities for Bermudian jobs.
And Cordell, well…umm…
Why do i constantly here of some folks are the only ones who know how to run a business and create jobs are already here just have to get persons in them. BPSU why don’t you hold your CS accountable in immigration and insure foreigners train bermudiams and dont renew contracts if they dont and follow up on if person’s are really qualified.
