Francis Patton Celebrates ‘Leadership Day’
At Francis Patton Primary School, students are learning more than what’s being taught in the textbooks, as since Francis Patton has become a Leader in Me school, students have learned skills they need to be successful based on Steven Covey’s book, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.”
Francis Patton’s principal Garita Coddington said, “Leadership Day, which is held once a year, was a way to show community leaders what the Leader in Me program has done for the school.
“It gives the students the opportunity to showcase what they do everyday. They’ve taken ownership in their school, and they’re proud to show that off to the community.”
“This community has invested in us,” she said. “We want to show them we’ve been good stewards of their money, and we want to showcase what we’ve been able to do with their investment.”
After three years of implementing the seven habits, Francis Patton achieved Lighthouse School status in May 2016.
“We’re a Lighthouse School,” she said. “We’re the first Lighthouse School in Bermuda and in the Caribbean, and part of that means that you’re going to be a lighthouse for other schools, for the community and for Bermuda.”
