August 11, 2017

Bermuda’s re/insurance community will once again join Lloyd’s of London and cities around the world next month in an initiative aimed at highlighting the business case for diverse and inclusive workplaces and providing practical ideas and inspiration for how to bring about positive change.

“The Dive In festival will take place from September 26th to 28th with events in a record number of 31 locations across the globe. Events will be returning to locations such as London, New York City, Zurich, and Bermuda, as well as new cities including Beijing, Glasgow, Johannesburg, San Francisco, Madrid, Perth, Rio de Janeiro, Rome and Miami,” a spokesperson said.

“This year, the Bermuda Dive In Festival committee is thrilled to welcome elite performance coach Dr. Dave Alred MBE who is a pioneer in performance psychology and has worked with some of the biggest names in sports, including the England Rugby team [four World Cups], the British Lions [three tours], the Springboks, the England Cricket team, and Premiership Football teams Manchester City, Sunderland and Watford. During the festival, Dr. Alred will lead an interactive session, hosted by Argus, titled “No Limits”.

“Session participants can expect to gain an understanding of his “no limits” philosophy where there is no thought of failure and everyone has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.

“Other local events scheduled to take place over the Festival’s three days include:

  • The opening event which will be hosted by Chubb Bermuda.
  • “Preparing for the Next-Gen workplace: Is your organization ready?” – will be presented by returning Dive In speaker and Gender & Multi-generational expert Christie Hunter-Arscott at an XL Catlin hosted event.
  • “Lip Service: A frank discussion about race in the workplace” – will be a world café-style event, hosted by Willis Towers Watson and led by moderator Tiffany Paynter. It will include a group of local leaders [Catherine Duffy, Barclay Simmons, Tawana Tannock and Paul Scope] discussing and responding to direct questions on race issues in the workplace. Members of the audience will then discuss their own experiences and discomfort in this intimate forum.
  • Returning by popular demand to the Festival is a refreshed Mindfulness session entitled “Today’s Leadership is Evolving: are you a Mindful Leader?” Hosted by Hamilton Re, this facilitated discussion and meditation exercise will explore the benefits of being authentic at work and provide techniques and tips for further developing your mindful leadership style.
  • “Racial Diversity and Inclusion: Lessons from the Classroom” – will take the form of a series of vignette performances by school students and will be hosted by the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers [“ABIR”].
  • The festival closing event, hosted by Aon Bermuda, will allow participants to discuss the events over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and share ideas to keep the diversity & inclusion momentum going.

“The Bermuda Dive In Festival is supported by ABIR, Aon, Argus, Chubb, Hamilton Re, Markel, Willis Towers Watson and XL Catlin.

ABIR Chairman Kevin O’Donnell said: “The Dive In Festival challenges leadership to embrace diversity and inclusion for the benefit of industry and society. The events help to grow understanding, identify barriers and embrace innovation to expand in new directions that support a more diverse and inclusive corporate culture. Through this collaboration, we reinforce the need for diversity and inclusion and fuel our efforts to support and attract diversity in the re/insurance industry.”

“The Festival has continued to garner support with the highest number of insurance sector sponsors since its inception in London in 2015. CNA Hardy, RPC and Lloyd’s join at gold level alongside Aon, Chubb, Marsh, Miller, Willis Towers Watson and XL Catlin.

“This year’s silver sponsors have also been confirmed as: AIG, Allianz, Arthur J. Gallagher, Beazley, Direct Line Group, Ed, Hiscox, JLT, Markel, Novae, Prudential and Travelers, in addition to specialist recruitment festival partner Oliver James Associates.
