IAC Events To Help Encourage Good Parenting
The Inter Agency Committee for Children and Families is dedicating the week of October 23-27 to encourage parents to focus more intentionally on actions that demonstrate greater care for the health and well-being of our children.
The week has been chosen due to the fact that many children will be out of school on break and the IAC would like to remind parents of the importance of ensuring that children are safe, secure and in stable environments during the week.
IAC will be sharing Parent Tip Sheets in various venues throughout the week, and Child Development Programme [CDP] will be hosting their “1,2,3,4 Workshop” on Thursday October 26 and Thursday November 2 from 6-8pm at the Child Development Programme.
IAC agencies and members will also be participating in a number of events in support of a focus on youth and unaddressed trauma by Dr. Kenneth Hardy, clinical psychologist, who will be visiting the island Oct 23-26, presenting in a number of venues throughout the week.
Dr. Hardy’s talk with Parents and Teachers on October 24th will be supported by IAC members providing information on resources available and general parenting tips. The Parent-Teacher Talk on October 24th is being sponsored by the Ministry of Education.
Chairperson, Martha Dismont, has stated, “The emphasis is on safety, security, stability and support for children. We have encouraged member agencies of the IAC who work with children and families to be available to parents, to help
- To provide information on support services to parents
- To raise awareness about the importance of good parenting through busy schedules and difficult economic times
- To send messages to clients of the importance of giving special parental attention during a week when children are out of school
Dr Alison Daniels, Psychologist/ Testing Supervisor at CDP, noted that “It is Child Development programme’s mission to partner with families of children from birth to four years and empowering them by providing quality services, support and guidance to maximize every child’s full potential.
“To support the IAC’s goal of focusing on good parenting CDP will be hosting the 1,2,3,4 Parents workshop which explores topics such as how to care for your child at different developmental stages, how to make routines that make life easier for parents and the importance of parents making time to take care of themselves. “
