Bermuda To Host 2019 World Sailing Conference
Bermuda hosting the World Sailing Annual Conference in 2019 ”will not only bring incremental air arrivals, direct spending and occupied hotel rooms,” it will also bring influential event organisers that will be “test-driving the island for additional events,” the BTA said today.
“World Sailing, the global governing body for the sport of sailing, is heading to Bermuda for its Annual Conference in 2019,” the BTA said.
“Building on the legacy of hosting the 35th America’s Cup, the Bermuda Tourism Authority bid to host the prominent group at its Annual Conference in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico earlier this month. Delegates approved Bermuda’s bid by a membership vote on November 12, 2017.
“World Sailing’s Annual Conference is the single most important meeting of sailing’s key stakeholders,” said Chief Executive Officer Andy Hunt.
“Key decision makers from World Sailing member nations, International Class Associations, boat builders and event organisers attend the conference to shape the future of the sport.
“More than 500 delegates attended the most recent edition of the Annual Conference in Mexico and we are thrilled to bring a similar audience to Bermuda in just under two years.”
“Bermuda has a long history with sailing, from its founding in 1609 and the creation of the Bermuda rig to the successful hosting of the 35th America’s Cup in 2017,” said Bermuda Tourism Authority Chief Executive Kevin Dallas. “We are thrilled to add the World Sailing Conference to Bermuda’s ever-growing resume as a world-class sailing destination.”
Mr Dallas added, “We are proud to win this one for Bermuda – transitioning from hosting the world’s most prestigious sailing race to hosting the sport’s esteemed governing body.
“While everyone here at the Bermuda Tourism Authority was elated to learn the America’s Cup contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to the Bermuda economy, our focus is on the next frontier – pursuing and converting new business opportunities if they’re a good fit for the island.”
The BTA added, “An independent economic report released last week on the America’s Cup in Bermuda forecasts about $91 million in visitor spending on-island over the next five years as a result of hosting the world’s most prestigious sailing competition.
“The World Sailing Annual Conference is the central meeting point where the strategy of sailing is reviewed, discussed and celebrated. A series of events will take place during the seven-day schedule, including the World Sailing Awards and the eSailing World Championships.”
“Hosting this conference in October of 2019 will not only bring incremental air arrivals, direct spending and occupied hotel rooms during the fall season – it will also bring influential event organisers that will experience Bermuda first-hand, test-driving the island for additional events,” said Victoria Isley, chief sales and marketing officer for the Bermuda Tourism Authority.
Thanks OBA and BTA.
But….but….
Come on Juice. Jump on this.
Where are the PLP trolls……….
PLP approved this it is sailing, hmmmm!
Well done BTA ! Keep up the excellent work.
Thanks OBA ACBDA and BTA.
Thanks OBA for losing the election. Now change the name again. You guys are so weak I bet you place Craig as leader again LOL
And thank you for electing a government that is so easy to criticise. Please stay on topic and tell me I am wrong when I say that the OBA ACBDA and BTA achieved great things – a legacy in fact. You can’t can you. I note you call yourself employee dare I ask who employs you?
No lets dig a little deeper. Why did you feel the need to change the name from UBP to a circus group like oba.
Lets be honest when the UBP was government we had money and jobs everywhere. I used to vote for you guys back in the day. Why did you change the name?
I agree UBP were awesome but a smear campaign painted them in a bad shade and they became unelectable. Plp tear things down buildings, good politicians and good people.
Government lmao. No surprise.
And thank you for electing a government that is about to bring this country’s financial reputation into ruin in the few shirts months it’s been in power. Let’s just create legislation that allows us to do whatever we want if anything gets in our way! Let’s bring down some………right? And no matter the cost…..right???
@Employee, give your Government time then you will see who is weak!
jahmal is not going to be happy about this
Well done tourism bda and the OBA oh by the way what happened to our massive debt ? anyone noticed how our current government has played that down it seems to be all spend spend spend with them …….again oh dear I see tears ahead
Great about the $91 million expected!! I wonder how much of that will go directly towards servicing the interest on our Gigantic National Debt?
