November 8, 2017

The U.S. Consulate has invited two American speakers to participate in Bermuda’s Global Entrepreneurship Week [GEW] activities, with Monica Dodi and Buzzy Thibodeaux set to participate in events sponsored by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] and other local partners.

A spokesperson said, “On November 17, Ms. Dodi will highlight Women’s Entrepreneurship Day by participating in a breakfast workshop, “Can We Have it All?” at HSBC Harbourview, followed by a lunch-time seminar for invited guests. She will also visit with members of non-government organizations to offer her expertise as a successful new media entrepreneur on developing global businesses.

“Mr. Thibodeaux will be the guest speaker at BEDC’s Entrepreneurship Education Awards ceremony on November 14. Throughout the week, he will visit middle and high schools to focus on entrepreneurship education and speak on the advantages of owning a business. He will also participate on a panel with local entrepreneurs during a discussion with Bermuda College students.

“Both speakers will participate as guest judges during the annual Rocket Pitch Competition- a Global Entrepreneurship Week event where local entrepreneurs will pitch creative business ideas to win a comprehensive start-up package of cash and services provided by BEDC – on November 16 at XL Catlin.

“Monica Dodi, an international new-media entrepreneur with a proven track record in creating, launching, and building highly successful global brands, is the founder of The Women’s Venture Capital Fund, which seeks to expand the number of women entrepreneurs creating capital-efficient, high-growth companies in digital media and sustainable products and services.

“Buzzy Thibodeaux is the Executive Vice President of Junior Achievement USA, a nonprofit organization that provides resources and programs for youth entrepreneurship education. While advancing national partnerships in the areas of K-12 outreach, entrepreneurship education and economic development, Buzzy also provides strategic leadership and implements organizational strategies.

“Both speakers were invited through the U.S. State Department’s Speaker Program, which facilitates the travel of American experts to present lectures and conduct workshops for audiences overseas. These programs were supported locally by Butterfield Bank, a primary sponsor of Bermuda’s annual Global Entrepreneurship Week.
