Flora Duffy Named “Best Female Biker Of 2017″

January 16, 2018

[Updated] Bermuda’s Flora Duffy has been named the “Best Female Biker of 2017″ by Triathlon.org, who said that while Duffy “proved her ability to be an all-around three sport triathlete, there is never denying what a powerhouse she is on the bike.”

The story said “Every year and every single new triathlon season always brings its own set of memorable moments such as exciting performances, close battles on the race course, personal best finishes and emotional triumphs.

“The 2017 season was no different, from the World Triathlon Series, World Cups, Multisport milestones and Paratriathlon Championships, the whole entire season was one for the record books. So, what better way to honour an amazing season such as the one of 2017 than to name the Best of the Best!

Best Biker January 2018

“While 2017 was the year that Duffy proved her ability to be an all-around three sport triathlete, there is never denying what a powerhouse she is on the bike. In almost every single WTS race she competed in this year she managed to create a breakaway advantage.

“Riding in a bike pack isn’t her style and it’s because of her initative that she could use her strength in the bike to create enough of a gap where she could excel then on the run and claim six WTS golds, including the World Championship crown for the second year in a row.

“It’s not just on our stage that she dominates as well, she also earned her fourth straight XTERRA World Crown in 2017, pointing out that she can also perform when she has some mud underneath her tires as well.”

Update January 17, 9:28am: Adding to her original accolades, Flora Duffy has also been named 2017′s Best Female Runner, with Triathlon.org citing her “perfect race in the Rotterdam Grand Final, the one where she dominated and collected her second world title” in awarding her the title.

  1. ….and Nahki Wells…..?????

    • Double S says:

Nakhi Wells is a cyclist as well? Swore he was a footballer. But I see what you’re trying to do here. Carry on.

      • bdaboy says:

‘STRAIGHT’FORWARD is trying to be as problematic as she can, that’s her goal in life

      • sugra says:

Righteously ignorant indignation; fired from the hip while blindfolded, as it were.

The irony? I’d bet good money Flora and Nahki would get along VERY well indeed. Wouldn’t it be great if these two young stars toured Bermuda’s schools together? Inspiring our kids with their stories, advice and encouragement and all the while striking a visceral image of what harmony among diverse Bermudians looks like…

        Anyway…

        Well done Flora!

Flora Duffy has emerged as one of the few genuine sports heroes Bermuda can call her own. She deserves every bit of the credit and support she so seldom ACTUALLY gets here.

        • PBanks says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bermuda’s best pro athletes correspond with each other from time to time… and why not? What a way to motivate someone, by having another athlete who’s worked hard and overcome obstacles in their journey to success offer support.

    • Inna says:

Can you read or do you love playing devil’s advocate? The award was handed out by Triathlon.org not any Bermuda affiliated organization!

You didn’t even need to read past the first sentence to get that much information.

      Ignorance is bliss..

      • Double S says:

He/she/it saw ‘one thing’, and then saw red. No reading required.

    • PBanks says:

I’m suspecting this is a deliberate troll job to try and rile people up, but whatever. Because otherwise you feel it’s the job of a triathlon publication to talk about a footballer.

    • The real Terry says:

As much as I admire Nahki Wells and wish him well, I have to question where STRAIGHTFORWARD is coming from?

      • aceboy says:

The election play book. People like this simply cannot stop.

  2. Athena says:

    Congratulations Flora!

You are a superb role model for young Bermudian triathletes to emulate.
