ok so the trucks have broken down then why not just use some of the open back trucks simple

    • Onion Juice says:

Not really, trucks need to be enclosed and leak proof in order to keep toxic waste intact, thats why those guys have to get shots every so often.

      • wahoo juice says:

        You oughta get a shot.

      • Justin says:

They can find money to give Ewart Brown $750k but they can’t fix de trash trucks!!!

They find money to give everyone a raise but then can’t find de money to fix de trucks!

You just can’t make this up.

        24-12!! :-)

      • Zevon says:

Lame. Even the brainwashed can’t come up with a convincing lie.

      • Ok says:

OJ this is OBA’s fault right? So why this and the buses never happened under their administration….don’t worry tho….PLPs got thiiiisssss….lol

      • Izzypop says:

So we leave the toxic waste trash to
Leak on the road side and into neighborhoods and roadways
And we let the rats hv a feel day digging threw it and spread their disease
        Smdh

    • Infidelguy says:

No. This has nothing to do with trucks breaking down. A dispute over pay has been going on for weeks. This delay is the result of a go-slow from the workers; and we’re just finding out about it!

      How’s that for TRANSPARENCY!

  2. Hey says:

Why can’t he update us now?

  3. Justin says:

Absolutely unacceptable. All these workers just received a pay increase and I suppose they’ve been making more money and doing nothing since the trucks are out of service?

It is seriously time to consider whether we should privatize or not. Our recycling is collected by a private company and we never have any issues. If I can borrow a quote from our Premier, ‘let’s put this service out to tender and see if we can get a better deal than the one we are getting now’.

    • Game Changer2017 says:

      I agree wholeheartedly.

    • Dready says:

What privatize and still pay govt workers. Nobody will lose their jobs if it was privatized. Bermuda down the toilet thanks to voters who cannot see past their skin color.

    • MB says:

I think they still make only 50k. Try live on that in Bermuda.

  4. somuchless says:

So PLP. who are you gonna blame now? Also why haven’t there been any marches/protests held?

If it was the oba in power Laverne and die hards woulda been all on top of this trash.

  5. Bermudas says:

Guess they waited for the Social Media Complaints before they issued a statement.

  6. inna says:

Could you imagine if this was under Craig Cannonier’s watch?!?!

Funny how 60% of the population is fine with being shafted, as long as it is by the PLP!!!

    • Truth says:

      We elected a circus.

    • Mark says:

Its more than just shafted my friend. We cant even deal with the previous grotesque “shafting” that has been proven and god only knows what kind of “shafting” is going on now. But youre right, more than half the voting population is alright with it. Wonder why?

    • Truth is killin’ me... says:

^^^Inna hit the nail on the head with a sledgehammer!

    • bdaboy says:

“Funny how 60% of the population is fine with being shafted, as long as it is by the PLP!!!”

No, it’s fine. This is just ‘born’ bermudians taking back what was stolen from them for 400 years.
Why do you hate equality and fair play?

      24 – 12

  7. Izzypop says:

Who wants to put that stinky trash in their vehicles now
Pull out the darn W and E dump trucks and use them to collect the trash

  8. Sooooo says:

How about the “ministry” hire someone to do the job…

  9. smitty says:

How about opening Tynes Bay earlier in the morning to allow those affected to drop off their bags on the way to work. Opening at 9am (the above statement is wrong BTW) is so impractical that working folks cannot use the facility.
Why not leave open later so householders can drop off their bags after getting home from work. Lets make it as difficult as possible to drop off our trash.

Here’s a brilliant idea – why not get some private truckers to drive around and have W+E workers man the trucks to collect the bags if it’s broken down trucks that are causing the problems? Guess the Unions won’t like that idea…

What are the drivers and collectors doing if they are not out actually collecting the garbage…are the sitting in the office getting paid to do nothing?

  10. Ides of March? says:

It’s a delay when you show up late. Garbage wasn’t collected in my area either day last week.

The more things change… The more they stay the same.

  11. Point boy says:

I keep my trash in a bin. (Just me. Not necessary.)
But I’m glad I do. Spanish Point looks like a dump!

I’m guessing someone wants a raise!! Smfh

  12. nerema says:

They can’t run basic services, and they try to keep it all a big secret. Unacceptable.

  13. Bill says:

New government and same old stuff. I wonder what the problem is then “”management”"”??? PLP needs to grow balls and fire the ones that aren’t performing. OBA had their chance and failed.

  14. wahoo juice says:

Has it been 200 days yet? All we have achieved is revocation of a minority’s rights and pay raises for people who can’t work because we can’t afford to fix vehicles. I don’t know what is in de budget but it better be strong magic.

24-12 wow wee…and you want to be trusted to build an airport? Who are you kidding? Not me I am in the twelve category. I will pick up people at the bus stops but I ain’t picking up someone else’s trash.

    • wahoo juice says:

….next come the rats and vector won’t have money for rat poison and then comes de plague.

      • Onion Juice says:

At least we had money for Billionaires to race sailboats.

        • DanBDA says:

Public exposure worldwide for the island, the natural beauty and facilities?

Public health hazards because a pro-labor government is busy patting itself on the back?

Good point to raise there OJ, really shows the past/current governments priorities in one.

          24-12, woop de doo.

        • Mark says:

yes and it brought in hundreds of millions of dollars to our economy. remember that report that this government doesn’t like to talk about? lol. facts scare them.

  15. Ringmaster says:

Welcome to the “new” PLP Government. No garbage collection, half a bus service Premier jetting off around the world and a fleet of new Government cars for the elite to ride around in. Yet no sound from the Peoples Campaign. Seems they are OK with suffering.

    • Micro says:

Thought I was the only one that noticed all the new GP cars. Customs bosses at the airport all have new luxury sedans.

W&E got a new cement truck, dropping cement all over the place on Northshore from Shelly Bay to St. George’s. Swear they dropped half the load outside Crawl gas station.

    • MB says:

You forgot the 800k they could afford to give to a multimillionaire doc!! How many trucks and buses clda that bought??

  16. puzzled says:

I was thinking about Colonel today.
    Irony. This article.
    Damn…….

  17. Spanner breath says:

    Thanks voters!

  18. Zevon says:

They aren’t collection “delays”. A “delay” is where something happens later than expected.
No garbage is being picked up at all. It’s nearly two weeks since we last saw a garbage truck.

  19. Good suggestions? says:

Good suggestions. I feel the same way. But lets suppose the following:
    1. Trash truck compact the trash. Would ordinary open back trucks do the job? Trash will pile up high very quickly. This would require so much more running up and down. But there are private companies that have trash trucks that can be hired out by the government. Plus trash trucks are fitted to negotiate many of Bermuda’s narrow roads.
    2. The trash is sorted and processed at Marsh Foley waste facility then retrucked to incinerator. Now the private open back trucks can assist here.

  20. Up D hill says:

Burch gonna figure this out?? Ya right!! We now have a government of dreamers not go gettter’s.

  21. Sage says:

Drop it off at BIU square.

  22. Oh really says:

About time they responded it’s only a week late. Cannot wait to hear the reason why….mean while I bet everyone is still being paid. Had this happened under the OBA they would have a whole lot to say.

  23. Me says:

    Get it sorted

  24. Just a suggestion says:

So if it is the trucks, which We do not know yet, it is easily rectified. Unlike Mr Know it all, (OJ) to everyone else says. Open back trucks will and do work after a simply lining is fitted ie open trash cans that are sitting by the 100s at various w+e depots Marsh Valley and Tynes Bay.Trash can be placed in for transport. Alternatively residents can double bag trash and not dispose liquids as requested by the waste collection dept. I for one would rather this before the rats get worse and the tourists come in their droves. Or Premier Burt can call the car manufacturers he must be getting a great discount with all the new vehicles he has purchased of late and put new trucks on the credit card.

I had to look up the definition of “Great” as in Make Bermuda “Great” again. Its defo not this shambles

  25. PANGAEA says:

    2016 I knocked off 8 rats
    2017 I knocked off 3 rats
yesterdsy I saw only one rat hanging around my trash bin and there is more where he came from.
Have you any idea how unhealthy it is to have rats on your property their excretions are very toxic.

  26. Smiths says:

    I JUST FIGURED IT OUT!!!!

There is no one at the marsh folly depot to fix trash trucks because they are all over at the bus deport trying to fix the buses…..double dipping paychecks!

  27. Spanner breath says:

Let’s start the betting pool going to blame the trucks. And the oba,

  28. Dready says:

Get what you voted for people!

  29. lalaland says:

ironically these problems were created cuz of the LAST PLP government! we cant even pay to keep up on our infastructure but yet the workers get pay raises! where is the People’s Complain to cuz all i see is a lot of folly stuff from the PLP and they on MUTE!

  30. simple says:

ironically these problems were created cuz of the LAST PLP government! we cant even pay to keep up on our infastructure but yet the workers get pay raises! where is the People’s Complain to cuz all i see is a lot of folly stuff from the PLP and they on MUTE!

  31. Cow polly says:

It would have been advantageous to have given us in the East end a heads up this morning that our trash wasn’t going to be collected again. I came home this evening to find mine and my neighbour’s trash strewn across the lawn and road due to the strong winds.

    • Warrior says:

Our roads look ridiculous, so glad Dog owners in my neck of the woods keep theirs maintained. Foolishness – held bondage by trash collectors and Minister of W & E.
Campaign for de people – they didn’t say which people or in what parish, now did they.

  32. Plague is a reality…we have eenuff rats.next are ferries.
    Innept…cannot….don’t….won’t…..
Personally I need to know why not..
    This is abysmal.

  33. Piss poor performance and bottom barrel broke,we are quickly turning into a third world country where…the people pay taxes and …obviously …well…where is the money being spent?
Buses and trash where is the cash
Buses and trash where is the cash?
Buses and trash where is the cash?!

  34. Mark says:

good point – where’s is the “peoples” campaign? maybe they aren’t really there for the people but their own “people” only? but hey, 24-12 right? good job…

  35. Will says:

Trash collectors get paid more here than any other jurisdiction over 60k a year..Better not be getting paid for this ridiculous lapse in collection.

  36. Mark2 says:

Bet you there’s no trash piled up at Furbert’s driveway. Lots of room at Union Square or in Onion’s yard!

  37. aceboy says:

The trucks aren’t the problem it is a work to rule

  38. PANGAEA says:

Catching rats is a messy buiness.

Rats are smarter than you may think,

It is not that easy to catch and detain a rat and when you do, how do you properly dispose of them?

The health Deparments sells special containers which can be laced with poison which the rat injests with a three day delay to finally terninate the rat some where.

I would invite you to explore youtube on the internet to see what options are available to catch and dispose of the rat, my preference is bucket drowning using the baited seesaw principal.
The trap door detainment principal works well also.

Did you know they can jump 3 feet and can swim so you don’t want one in your water tank.

Ii have tried the standsrd large spring type rat trap with out success, the glue trap is ok to catch the juniors however the grand daddy rats can and do escape, these cunning rats either steal the bait or escape from most devices.

You may ask what atracts rats? That is easy its food.

when are rats active ? Usualy at night.

If you get one in your ceiling or in your kitchen you are in big trouble as they are looking for a home to have babies say about 100 per year.

    WARNING :
Dont mess with rats unless you know exactly what you are doing and always wear sergical gloves.

  39. SS says:

    BLAME THE OBA!

  40. PANGAEA says:

70 / 80 Years ago duing the horse buggy days we all used to burn our own trash in a perforated oil drum.

The food stuff went in the garden as compost .

Don’t you think we have come a long way since then.

Any voluntees to ride on the back of the trash truck even for a day?

  41. Now!….a service has been paid for….refuse has been placed at the appointed place of service pickup.
    This is your trash now.
    It is your responsibility.
    You deal with it.
    Or don’t.
    I don’t care

  42. PANGAEA says:

Now you know why you pay land tax.
The trash truck came round our area today, people had taken their trash back in.
The trash truck left with out stopping.
    The power of positive thinking.
