Restaurant Weeks To Feature 51 Local Eateries

January 9, 2018

Foodies who relish Bermuda Restaurants Weeks each year will have more choices in 2018 than ever before, as 51 local restaurants have signed up for the Bermuda Tourism Authority-managed promotion which will run from January 11th to February 4th.

The BTA said, “Regular Bermuda Restaurant Weeks diners will notice new establishments on the list of options for the first time in the history of the promotion. They include newly opened Divots at Belmont Hills and Astwood Arms on Front Street. Meantime, popular haunt Mad Hatters has joined Bermuda Restaurants Weeks for the first time.”

“We decided to participate in Restaurant Weeks this year as we wanted to be able to offer a reasonably priced menu that could still showcase our cuisine,” said Mad Hatters Manager Edward Barnes.

“Also we have found Restaurant Weeks to be a very popular event and have seen the interest increasing over the past few years. It’s a great way for Bermuda restaurants as a whole to show their culinary delights and hospitality; people look forward to it!”

“We are delighted to see the continued growth of Bermuda Restaurant Weeks,” said Bermuda Tourism Authority Chief Product and Experiences Development Officer Pat Phillip-Fairn.

“For a market our size, three dozen restaurants is a great showing. To have 51 is outstanding. It gives visitors and residents a wide selection to choose from and confirms that Bermuda Restaurant Weeks successfully drives revenue into local restaurants at a time when the extra business is very much welcomed.”

“Once again this year, Bermuda Restaurant Weeks coincides with Bermuda Marathon Weekend and the Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts, enhancing the stays of more than 1,000 visitors,” the BTA added.

“Diners can choose from two-course lunch menus priced at $22 and three-course dinner menus with three price tiers at $32, $42 and $52. The price points are the same as last year. This is the second year lunch has been made available as part of the promotion.

“Thirty-seven restaurants will receive added promotion because they’ve agreed to provide Bermuda-inspired menus. Serving local cuisine also makes them eligible for the People’s Choice Award.

“The Bermuda Tourism Authority created the award to motivate restaurants to feature Bermuda’s culinary heritage because food culture is central to the visitor experience. During the course of the campaign diners who vote for their favourites at gotobermuda.com also qualify for prizes.

“It’s also possible to be a randomly selected winner for sharing images of your Restaurant Weeks dining experience on social media using #BermudaRW. Visitors highly value the recommendations of locals when deciding where to eat and the social media activity helps to serve that purpose, but residents should also be encouraged to share their Restaurant Weeks insight in person.

The BTA noted that “six participating restaurants are new to the island, new to Bermuda Restaurant Weeks and/or newly refurbished and renamed” including Astwood Arms, Tapas, Divots Bar & Grill, Mad Hatters, Mediterra and Boundary Sports Bar & Grille.

Bernews has obtained most the menus of the participating restaurants, and we will post them in a subsequent article.
