Powerboat Association Votes In New Executive

March 20, 2018

The Bermuda Powerboat Association held its Annual General Meeting [AGM] last week; as a result a new Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, and executive were elected.

New Commodore Robert Cardwell said, “Last week the Bermuda Powerboat Association held its AGM. This AGM was well attended and in that AGM the following executive elections were made:

  • Commodore: Robert Cardwell
  • Deputy Commodore: David Selley
  • Rear Commodore: Paul Wellman
  • Secretary: Janae Nesbitt
  • Flag Officers: Jody Correiro, Jordan Fletcher, Andrew Osborne, Matthew Smith, Mark Selley, Andrew Cottingham

“The entire executive team were unopposed when the nominations were made.

“I am humbled to have been elected to the position of Commodore and I very much look forward to bringing my leadership experience to the role and working with the Executive Team who are all very sensible individuals and bring substantial experience in their own right to their roles.

“We will work to ensure that the Bermuda Power Boat Association meets the expectations of its members in a much more inclusive rather than exclusive way. There are a few challenges in front of us but I think we will be able to navigate through those challenges without issue.

“We will be meeting soon to plan the upcoming racing season and to make confirmations on race dates and locations. We think that we will see a good year of exciting racing with many of last season’s race teams returning. We also expect a few new teams.

“I am aware that all of the race teams are very busy preparing their boats to get ready for the season. Powerboat racing is an extreme sport filled with adrenaline rushes for the competitors and is also a thrilling and exciting sport to watch.

“The Bermuda Powerboat Association recognizes that the youth of today are our leaders of tomorrow. We will be working to put together a youth racing and mentor program that we hope to launch soon. We will work with our existing sponsors and will reach out for new sponsors to make this a reality. I expect we will have more details on this program as we progress.

“We invite the Bermuda public to follow us on our Facebook page. We will use this social media to update the public on what is happening and when it will happen.”
