Both By-Elections To Be Held On June 7th

May 4, 2018

The date of the by-elections for Constituency 22 Paget East and Constituency 25 Warwick North East have been announced, with both set to take place on June 7th.

The by-elections were prompted by the resignations of OBA MPs Jeff Baron and Dr Grant Gibbons, with Dr Gibbons representing Paget East, while Mr Baron represented Warwick North East.

Paget East has elected OBA or UBP MPs in the last four elections with winning margins from 64% to 80%, while Warwick North East has elected two OBA and two PLP MPs in the last four elections, with the winning margins ranging from 52% – 57%.

Neither party has announced their candidates yet, however that is likely to change this afternoon, as one party is holding a press conference, and we plan to stream that live.

The announcement said, “The Parliamentary Registrar advises the public that, His Excellency Mr. John Rankin, CMG, Governor has issued a writ of election for by-elections to take place in Constituency 22 Paget East and Constituency 25 Warwick North East on the 7 June 2018.

“Nomination Day for both constituencies will be on 24 May 2018. The polling station location for Constituency 22 Paget East will be Bermuda College Student Centre, Paget. The polling station location for Constituency 25 Warwick North East will be Bright Temple AME Church Hall, Warwick.

“Registration for voters living in these constituencies will close on Friday, 11 May 2018 at 5:00 p.m. Voters can register online at www.elections.gov.bm or at the Parliamentary Registration office in Craig Appin house 3rd floor, #8 Wesley Street in the City of Hamilton.”
