’20 Liters Of Sludge Spilled Onto Ship’s Deck’

The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre [BMOC] received a call from the motor vessel Tanja on Sunday [June 17] to report a pollution incident onboard, with 20 liters of sludge having spilled onto the ship’s deck, with BMOC noting that “clean-up was successful.”

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Sunday, June 17 at 3.59am, the motor vessel Tanja contacted Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre from a position 210 miles ESE of Bermuda to report a pollution incident onboard, whereby 20 liters of sludge had spilled onto the ship’s deck.

“Immediate containment actions were undertaken and clean-up was successful, except for some discharge that was washed into the sea due to heavy rain.

“The Bermuda Department of the Environment and Natural Resources and U.S. Coast Guard were advised, with no further action deemed necessary.”
