Eight Tech Interns In TLF Summer Programme
On May 31st the tenth annual Technology Leadership Forum [TLF] Internship Programme launched with eight technology interns participating in the summer programme.
The 2018 TLF interns who passed the rigorous selection process are: Stephen Outerbridge, Justine Dzofonoo-Burch, Sher-Kyra Outerbridge, Raven Duffy, Kiara Saunders, Jalesa Vincent, Matthew Correia and Stephen Galloway.
These interns will undergo in an intensive twelve-week summer programme that combines classroom learning, team projects, and fieldwork at participating companies.
This combination of theoretical learning and on-the-job practice is to ensure that the interns acquire a rich experience in the information communications technology [ICT] industry. Moreover, participants will develop their networking skills and develop relationships in the ICT community during the programme which may then assist them as they eventually search for employment.
The TLF was founded eleven years ago as a response to the growing need for qualified Bermudian talent in the ICT field. It aims to encourage Bermuda’s information technology [IT] students to become exposed to the many varied career paths which they can pursue across many industries. The TLF, a registered charity, is run in partnership between private sector organizations and the Bermuda Government.
Ian Cook, Chair of the TLF kicked off the launch event introducing the Minister of National Security, Wayne Caines and Andrew Newton of Validus Re.
Minister Caines said, “This programme has been developed through a beneficial collaborative effort in the ICT sector in order to make sure that it is current with industry requirements.”
He added, “Over the course of the summer, the TLF Interns will be exposed to real-work environments and problems; not just in-class instruction. So I encourage the interns to make the most of it. Reach out to their mentors, instructors, and professionals that they meet as they intern in the partner companies. This experience will be as beneficial and edifying as they make it.”
“The TLF thanks all of its valued sponsors and partners who have tangibly demonstrated their support for the initiative. This includes: Validus Re, the Department of ICT Policy and Innovation, ACT, W&W/Connectech, CCS Group, Deloitte, First Atlantic Commerce/EGL, Link Bermuda, Ptix, RenaissanceRe and Argo,” a spokesperson said.
