Jessica Lewis Ranked #1 In World For 100M
The latest World Para Athletics rankings have been released, with Bermuda’s Jessica Lewis earning the number one world ranking in the T53 100m after recording the fastest time this season at that distance.
The sprinter continues to improve, with her time of 16.77 — which won her the gold medal at the World Championships in Switzerland last month — marking one of only three times so far this year a T53 female sprinter has gone under the 17 second mark.
To provide a comparison, Ms Lewis finished in 19.38 at her first Paralympic appearance in 2012, then recorded a time of 17.25 to finish 6th at the 2016 Paralympics, and with her steadily improving times, she will be heading into the 2020 Paralympic Games as a medal contender.

In addition to her top ranking in the 100m, Lewis has the third best T53 200m time of 31.03, and ranks 9th in both the T53 400m and T53 800m.
As triathlete Flora Duffy is also currently ranked number one in the ITU World Triathlon Series Rankings, Bermuda currently has two athletes ranked number one in the world at their disciplines, which is a rather impressive distinction for an island as small as Bermuda.
