Nesbeth Commits To Florida State University
Bermuda U17 Women’s International footballer LeiLanni Nesbeth moved one step closer to fulfilling her dream of playing football at a major university in the US yesterday as she verbally committed to attend Florida State University.
Nesbeth, the former St. David’s Primary and Saltus Grammar School student is completing her junior year at Bede’s in the UK and can now move into her senior year knowing where she will continue her academic and athletic pursuits after impressing the coaching staff at FSU.
The highly sought after attacking player had drawn much attention from US universities at the recently concluded CONCACAF U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers held on the campus of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
The tournament was abandoned in its first attempt in Nicaragua this past April and the move to complete the tournament in the US worked in her favor as many more coaches were able to attend the event due to its convenient location.
FSU is in the Atlantic Coast Conference [ACC] which is a powerhouse in women’s soccer at the collegiate level. They have won 4 ACC championships in the last 5 years.
Established programs such as the University of North Carolina, NC State, Duke and Virginia are just a few that make up this extremely competitive conference. In addition to conference play the Seminoles have games scheduled against highly touted programs UCLA, USC and the University of Florida during their 2018-19 campaign.
FSU are led by head coach Mark Krikorian who has led FSU to a National Championship in 2014, eight College Cup appearances, three appearances in the national title game [2007, 2013 and 2014], three ACC regular season titles [2009, 2012 and 2014] and five league championships [2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016]. LeiLanni will get her first taste of what life will be like in Tallahassee this summer as she will attend the FSU Women’s ID Camp in July.
