Meet Bermuda Netball Player Tia Burrows
In the ninth in a series of profiles of netball players who will be a part of the team representing Bermuda in the USA Netball U21 International Development Series being held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from July 23 to 25, we spotlight Tia Burrows, a 18-year-old who plays in the Goal Keeper position.
1. How does it feel to have been selected for the squad?
It feel very good as it is my first time being able to represent Bermuda.
2. How will you prepare for the competition between now and July 21st?
I will continue to attend all trainings and make sure that I eat a healthy diet.
3. When did you start playing netball and what prompted you to start?
I started playing netball in primary school. What promoted me to play was a training camp that North Village put on at Bermuda College and I continued to play for their team in the league.
4. Do you feel the sport of netball gets enough support from the local community?
No I don’t, this is because not as many people come out to watch and support the league as they do for football or cricket
5. What are ultimate goals in life, both on and off the court?
On the court my goals are to get better and continue playing and represent Bermuda in the Under21 World Cup in Fiji and off the court my goal is to go to university and become a physiotherapist.
6. If you had to, for some reason, have one non-netball player on your team, like a local politician/entertainer/public figure, who would you choose and why?
Wayne Caines, National Security Minister, because to him losing is not an option and that’s the attitude you need on the netball courts.
7. Which Bermudian athlete, coach or sporting figure do you admire most and why?
I admire Flora Duffy because of her achievements and stamina and as she is a big influence for female athletes.
