Oliveira Moves Up To 5th In Jr Tour Of Ireland

July 12, 2018

Bermuda’s Junior National Champion Matthew Oliveira continued competing in the Junior Tour of Ireland.

Oliveira — riding for Hot Tubes — is the reigning Commonwealth Youth Games Time Trial Champion and took Silver in the Road Race at those Games last July.

Oliveira started the day in 6th place overall after the Time Trial First Stage, the Second Stage which was 95km in length, took the competitors from Ennis to the finish along the seafront in Kilkee.

Oliveira would cross the line 31st overall with a time of 2:15.40, the same time as the top 60 riders, the time moved him up to 5th with an overall time of 2:23.56.

Oliveira’s Hot Tubes teammate Magnus Sheffield keeps the Yellow Jersey.

Oliveira said, “It was a very successful day for my team. I worked tirelessly at the front of the peloton chasing attacks from other teams, in order to keep our leader in the overall lead for time.

“I was very tired around mile 60 and sat in for the sprint finish as I had nothing left for the end. It was a win on my part and I did it for the team. The team spirit is high, we have increased our lead and I have also moved into 5th overall out of 120 riders. We are looking to do some more damage.”
