Video: ‘Taking Off’ Highlights Investing In Youth
Skyport has released the sixteenth episode of ‘Taking Off’, a video series with host Mikaela Pearman that highlights the airport redevelopment project, with this week’s video highlighting the investing in youth.
Speaking in the sixteenth episode, Mikaela Pearman said, “As you know, Skyport is passionate about investing in our youth.
“This time around, we decided to invest in Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences’ Ocean Science Camp and Marine Science Internships. These summer programmes offer students aged 12 to 17 an introduction to Bermuda’s marine environment.
“It also helps them learn about scientific research, both in the lab and the field. Skyport provided bursaries for eight students who were interested in oceanography but lacked previous marine experience.
“Ocean Camp Director Kaitlin Noyes said the goal was to provide students with collaborative experiences that allowed for exploration while improving their confidence and inspiring respect for the marine environment.
“Part of their activities included investigating the feeding preferences of a sea slug and investigating local decorator crabs.
“Outside of the lab, students snorkeled, explored Bermuda’s coastal and marine environment, spent time surveying fish and much more. I think it’s safe to say these students had a blast.
“Stay tuned for more Skyport community investments.”
